Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted April 22, 2015 at 07:48 PM Posted April 22, 2015 at 07:48 PM I realized upon landing there yesterday that CYYC has changed their runway numbers and added 17L/35R. Using ADE9X I changed the numbers and added the new runway and taxiways. When it came time to add the ILS for 17L and 35R I realized I needed the chart. So, I went to the VATCAN Website to grab the newest charts for Calgary. Then went to the Edmonton FIR. There I found a link for charts and at that link I found that I could register for free at FltPlan.com and view the most current charts for almost all of Canada. How Awesome! I read with care the suggestion to download and save the charts I view to my computer. What an excellent idea!! Sadly, upon pulling up the ILS 17L Approach Plate imagine my dismay when Fltplan.com informed me that through an agreement with NAVCanada their charts are not available for either printing or saving. Bradley Grafelman Posted April 22, 2015 at 08:13 PM Posted April 22, 2015 at 08:13 PM IANAL, but looking at their website, the only relevant clause of the T&C I found was this: Users may not resell, alter, retransmit, repackage, disseminate or republish, electronically or otherwise, any of the information accessed from FltPlan.com in any form, including paper, CD-ROM, another internet website or other electronic network, nor may a user include any page (or part therof) or content with any other product, docomeent or information that the user holds, creates or distributes, without the prior written consent of Flight Plan LLC. The specific warning in red text I believe you're referencing is (verbatim): Note: per Nav Canada restrictions, Canadian Charts are not to be printed. Neither statements suggest any restrictions on saving the charts to your own computer for personal use (e.g. for flight simulation).
Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted April 22, 2015 at 10:36 PM Author Posted April 22, 2015 at 10:36 PM Bradley, Took me a bit to figure out just what the heck "IANAL" meant. Old School, Old Guy, who got his first cellphone 2 years ago, a flip phone as well. It's okay, there's no shame in not being a lawyer... Yeah, saving the chart is possible, so I guess I misspoke there...somewhat. The chart you view can be saved as a .html docomeent link and from there you can save the image as a .jpeg image and from there you can use your picture viewer to look at the chart and from there print it. So, you are printing a third generation image of the original, which, when printed to fit the full letter sized 8-1/2x11 page...at least on my system...comes out grainy and the words are very hard to make out...but it is saved and it is printed...somewhat. I have a subscription to Navigraph's nDAC program for charts so I will just go there and get the current CYYC chart. I already tried AirCharts.org and their version is still 16/34 and no parallel 17L/35R and 17R/35L. Randy Edit: Ooh Ooh...went to NAVCanada site and downloaded in pdf format the entire CAP for Canadian Airports. Printable charts in crisp, clear format. Problem solved!!!
