James Roberts 955206 Posted March 24, 2006 at 09:41 AM Posted March 24, 2006 at 09:41 AM I received an email from VATSIM asking to take part in a survey. They asked how much I would be willing to pay to use their services of online flying. There were choices from 0.00 dollars all the way up to 25.00 dollars a month or a one time fee for each year. They said that this is a possiblity in the near future and they randomly selected users for this survey. Well, I'll tell you, I'm not paying for nothing. It's fun, but you know what, I'm not paying. I'll stick with www.eskyworld.com where it's free.

Martin Georg 811874 Posted March 24, 2006 at 10:42 AM Posted March 24, 2006 at 10:42 AM Uh, I´m sure the big boss will jump in and add a comment for clarification, but let me [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ure you already that there will NEVER be any charges for VATSIM in future. The VATSIM survey has been created to get an overview about the opinions of VATSIM members and non-members, and this includes the theoretical possibility of a pay service (you may have noticed that questions about a service quality improvement by payments have been coming up in the past from time to time). However, practically this is a virtually impossible option. Or, as a well-known vulcan science officer would have said: "That´s extremely unlikely" best regards, Martin Georg

Norm Hare 907837 Posted March 24, 2006 at 12:37 PM Posted March 24, 2006 at 12:37 PM I think the purpose of the survey, was to answer it in the privacy of your own home, not to complain about it here. And if you find a way to go through life "Not paying nothing", please let us all know. There is a price for everything in life! (WOW...that was deep!) Nicholas Bartolotta 912967 Posted March 24, 2006 at 01:08 PM Posted March 24, 2006 at 01:08 PM Like Martin said, it was probably to see how many folks value the network enough to pay for it...but with no actual plans to do that. George Marinakis Posted March 24, 2006 at 01:13 PM Posted March 24, 2006 at 01:13 PM (edited) This is too funny (in the ironic sort of way) not to bring up.... I received an email from VATSIM asking to take part in a survey. They asked how much I would be willing to pay to use their services of online flying. There were choices from 0.00 dollars all the way up to 25.00 dollars a month or a one time fee for each year. I'll stick with www.eskyworld.com where it's free. This from the same outfit who STOLE our NY ARTCC's standard operating procedures less than one week ago and held it out as being their own. Not only did this group have the gall to steal it and call it their own, they even went the extra mile and merely linked directly to the ZNY website thereby using someone else's paid-for bandwidth without permission and for their own purposes!!!!!! You can check out the thread on our forums here: http://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?t=8236 Looks like someone complained because the offending site was shut down this week (go figure...their ISP didn't take kindly to the way they were conducting themselves). "I'm not paying for nothing"? I guess you don't! Edited March 24, 2006 at 03:19 PM by Guest George S. Jeff Thomas Posted March 24, 2006 at 02:02 PM Posted March 24, 2006 at 02:02 PM Personally, I don't believe there was a survey. I think this is just hype, and a way to "negatively promote" their silly service. Sorta like when one of those spoiled actors "punches" someone, or acts like an idiot by jumping up and down on a couch and saying how much they love someone.....a week before the premier of their latest flick. Just ignore this....it's hype... should lock the thread or remove it if you ask me Jeff Thomas VP-IT https://joinava.org

Andreas Fuchs Posted March 24, 2006 at 04:10 PM Posted March 24, 2006 at 04:10 PM @GM: Thanks for your reply. Could just make clear if there has been a survey with such a question or not? That's the main point, many people here do think. I also agree that VATSIM won't be able to start charging money because it is written in its "legislation". Richard Jenkins Posted March 24, 2006 at 05:14 PM Posted March 24, 2006 at 05:14 PM 1. There was no survey. 2. VATSIM will never charge members. 3. Send me a copy of the email with headers included. I would be very interested in seeing that; of course I don't think there really was an email, was there James? RJ

They were just asking you a question, not sending you a bill.
