Josh Hjemvick 811983 Posted March 30, 2006 at 06:54 AM Posted March 30, 2006 at 06:54 AM You know how I feel on the subject, just a bunch of cronyism going on. . Josh..Are you calling me a crony? I just need to understand where you're at on this. RJ No RJ, not you. I respect you and your opinions. Same goes for much of VATSIM's senior leadership. You guys have provided a great service for many of us to enjoy. I should of followed up on this a little bit earlier. Real life took a bit of a priority. Bothers me Marc, but it is obvious that it won't do any good my friend. You know how I feel on the subject, just a bunch of cronyism going on. No wonder they want to make it easier. Our appointed leaders have little time online, might as well water down the training standards. Cronyism? Wait a second, weren't you two thick as thieves in Los Angeles? I guess you must have a different definition of cronyism and switch whenever the situation is convenient to you. Mr. Karras, and your 8 posts on this forum. Welcome to the forum. Hope you are enjoying both the network, and the forum. Since Marc has already gone through the liberty of filling you in on the finer details of our "friendly" relationship, I won't bore you with repeating it. Since you [Mod - Happy Thoughts]umed to know so much, I wish you best in your enjoyment of the network. I was on a LOA from ZLA from early 2003 to the spring of 2004 for military service. After my return to the network in the spring of 04, I saw that new leadership had taken place at ZLA. Initially I was not happy about this, and pretty much kept the same train of thought as a lot of things that I helped create for ZLA before I left had changed greatly, something that I was not happy about. I made my opinion known to Marc, and that is where our "rough" relationship began. Nevertheless, on one of the issues that Mr. Marinakis explained (ZLA refusing handoffs from ZAB. . . we had a reason, considering ZAB didn't feel like sticking to the agreed upon LOA between our facilities - thankfully this practice is over with, has been for over a year and half now, no sense rehasing it), I agreed with Marc on. There have been very FEW subjects that me and Marc see eye to eye on. So sure, to consider us thick as thieves is a bit of an exageration based on the lack of knowledge of the situation. In the terms of any staff position I held while at ZLA, each of those positions were at the request of the then Chief, Dr. David Hendlemen, and the previous Chief Instructor, Craig Moulton. The following were positions that I staffed at ZLA just for your reference, Ontario TRACON Lead (Developed sector specific controlling tools and tips for new students on a self hosted website), during the time as lead I was also on staff as an Instructor, which was a short lived experience, but greatly enjoyed until I had to take an LOA for my military service. So cronyism from Marc, towards me, never existed. Hopefully that finally cleared some of the fog out of your mind. Keep the blue side up. You know how I feel on the subject, just a bunch of cronyism going on. . Are you going to win some sort of prize if you manage to use this word in every one of your posts for an entire month? Just wondering. Do you get some prize for always adding stupid comments? I personally don't see what Josh is doing wrong. He see's something corrupt and has the *bravery*(substituted for another word) to call people out on it. I personally would think josh is doing the right thing. But on the other hand we have you, who sits and post stupid little jokes about everything. Maybe if you spent as much time caring about ZTL as you did making stupid comments I would have stayed. I'll kill two birds with one stone. Jeff - If this is some sort of new competition going on that I dont know about, then sure, nominate me. Otherwise, deal with it. If the word fits, then it shall be utilized. Brandon - I wish I wasnt the only one who speaks his mind. More importantly, I wish that the powers at be wouldnt be so closed minded to descenting views. Everyone has an opinion, I just happen to forget to sugar coat mine before I give it. Thanks for the support. Hopefully ZJX is treating you well, I know they have a great group of guys down there running the show. Best of luck. As far as the cronyism stuff....Josh, I'm going to be flat out honest with you bud. Your attitude is quite poor sometimes, and I don't think it is the type of attitude that should be in a leadership position. Whenever I am considering someone for a staff position one of the primary things that I look for is someone who can relate to our members without trying to intimidate them or make them feel like idiots whenever they make a mistake. I would guess that VATUSA has similar considerations whenever they are seeking staff members. On paper, you have excellent qualfications and I am sure that you can work traffic as good as any of us. The bottom line is, none of that matters if you go around attacking everyone for every little decision that is made in which you do not agree. That is how I feel, take it for what its worth. You find me one person who has said that I have belittled them, or made them feel uncomfortable while I was training them. Or in your words, find one person that I have worked traffic with, that will say that I intimidated them or make them feel like idiots whenever they make a mistake. I'll personally come to your house and mow your lawn, or come and re-paint your apartment. Good luck. Bottom line is, you won't find a soul who would agree with you. My training techniques are my own, I am straight forward, and also, do not sugar coat things. I can only train those who are willing to help themselves first, no sense helping someone who isnt willing to help themselves. Agreed? So yes, my training techniques may be a bit "tougher" than yours, or in my opinion, your training techniques as a facility are not tough enough to create the utmost realistic facility that can possibly be had on the network. I'm past that though, you guys run your ship as you wish. But my issue is with VATUSA giving the impression that perhaps it may instate some sort of VATUSA wide watering down of training standards. That has come and gone, the boiling water from that has gone down to a simmer, and I haven't heard much more about it. But if it does begin to boil again, yes, you can be sure to hear my views on it. This is indeed a hobby, but many utlize it for much more, who we also need to be able to provide a service to. This network isnt just for the after work puts around type of individual who just want to fly with a real life person giving ATC instructions. This network is also for the ATC student, PPL student, IFR student, who is seeking the most realistic environment to run through scenarios. If you disagree, then so be it, but that is my point of view on the subject, and it is not changing. I am 100% an advocate for a more realistic network. In my eyes, there is still much to be done to reach the level of realism that can be. Until I'm happy, I'm going to give my opinion, and voice it as needed. I'm sorry that I'm not a pom-pom holding fan boy, or whatever you wish to call them. There will be differences in viewpoints, always, no matter where you go in life. For those who do not like to hear those descenting viewpoints, I have one suggestion for you. Learn to appreciate it. Find ways to embrace the descenting viewpoints. Don't cast them out as "outcast" because they do not go hook, line, and sinker into your every whim. Now that that is taken care of, those are my last words in this thread, concerning the state of VATUSA. I hope all who attended had a great time, looks like it from the pictures. Maybe next year the crowd will be just a bit bigger. CMEL.CSEL.IA.AGI.CFI.CFII.MEI.CRJ2.FO.Furloughed Part of the Acey
Ernie Alston 812154 Posted March 30, 2006 at 05:15 PM Posted March 30, 2006 at 05:15 PM Nevertheless, on one of the issues that Mr. Marinakis explained (ZLA refusing handoffs from ZAB. . . we had a reason, considering ZAB didn't feel like sticking to the agreed upon LOA between our facilities - thankfully this practice is over with, has been for over a year and half now, no sense rehasing it) Josh, If you didn't want to rehash it, then why bring it up at all ? A simple handoff acceptance 'would' have sufficed (and would have saved all of us 7 months of headaches) but you and Marc refused to do it unless it was done 'your' way and put in writing, which was just plain stupid for what is supposed to be a friendly hobby. Marc expended a lot of his time, trying to get myself and other members of ZAB fired and/or suspended (as well as several other members in Vatsim we know about). How ironic is it that out of all the people Marc called for or demanded be fired or suspended , replaced or whatever over the past 3 years, the only person Marc was ever able to successfully get fired was himself. Josh Hjemvick 811983 Posted March 30, 2006 at 05:17 PM Posted March 30, 2006 at 05:17 PM EA, I didn't bring it up, Mr. Marinakis brought it up on I think page 3, heck could of been 4. Nevertheless, I followed the LOA we had with ZAB, it just appeared that yes, for 7 months, it was only a one facility taking part in an LOA deal. . . no big deal, long gone, way way many many moons ago. Bigger issues to fry now. Anything else? I think I have done more rehashing by replying to your silly reply, about me not rehashing it. Heck, I'm confused now, who rehashed what? George Marinakis Posted March 30, 2006 at 06:43 PM Posted March 30, 2006 at 06:43 PM Ok...you've partly expressed you opinion Josh. Ernie has done so with his, and I think I made mine abundantly clear. You seem to persist in wanting to follow down Mr. Syke's road by denigrating those who disagree with you (after all, you were the first to spit out the cronies remark, you continuously make mention of what you perceive to be a small turnout in Chicago and now you immediately define Ernie's post as a "silly reply"). You are no longer expressing opinions when you resort to name calling and belittling others. That is something that you do not have the freedom to do in VATSIM or on these forums. You said you were done with this thread so I suggest you follow your own advise lest you end up in the same destination as Mr. Sykes. George S. I can tell you from meeting some of these fine folks last year in DC, it had to be a good time had by all. Jeff, If I had made it up there this year would we have had any NEW blood to pull the 'your stuck with the tab' prank on?
