If this is a Joke it's not funny. TGIF is first of all more than just one VA. So if trying to punish a certain someone, this is not the way to do it. This effects more than 150 people. People look foward to doing this all week. I'm very disappointed at this decision, and think that they should think about what they are doing. Lets just say I know where I'm flying next Friday....

Andrew, I hate to burst your bubble, but TGIF is VCA! It was started by VCA and continues to be VCA's event! We eventually invited other VA's into what has become VATSIM's premere event, but that's something current VATUSA management with a grudge is willing to lose I take it.

Too bad really as we will continue our events, but we will explore other options besides VATSIM if they continue to support people like Jeff Turner.

Lance,

True, it's a VCA sponsored event. But, as Andy stated, it's co-sponsored by other VA's. VA's, who without their help, your precious TGIF wouldn't be the premier event that it has become! I know that back when I was the Events Mgr. at AvA, we routinely brought 20-25 pilots every single week. There's a big following with our guys, & I'm sure that holds true at the other VA's, as well.

I personally think that it's not right for you to hold hostage, the pleasure of everybody that's helped you get TGIF to where it is, for what best as I can tell, amounts to nothing more then a pissing contest between you, & Mr. Turner. I keep reading he's got to go, this, & that, but I'm yet to even know why he has to go, lest you, in your almightiness, cancel my, as well as everyone elses' fun. If you're going to drag us into this, you at least owe us that. Normally I would say that it wasn't our business, but hey, you're the one that wanted to make this public, & involve people unrelated to it unwittingly, & at least in one case, against their will.

On the face surface of it, your initial post reads like 'lil Johnny whining that "if you don't play ball the way I want to play ball, then I'm going to take my ball, & bat, & go home!" Don't be too surprised if that's exactly what they tell you to do!

Do what you want to,...but I'm willing to bet that if you do,...it's gonna backfire, & bite you in the a$$.

From what it looks like, VATUSA did NOT cancel the event, VCA did.

HOWEVER, people can still fly TGIF to Chicago next week if they like...I personally know that the staff at VZAU has been preparing for weeks now in order to provide service next Friday night.

So, PLEASE fly to Chicago next Friday night because my wife will kill me if I tell her "those plans" we cancelled could actually have taken place!

I'll be there in some form, so everyone please come on to the Windy City. Current weather looks like a typical April night with a chance for Tstorms and rain, and just "breezy". For anyone from Northern Illinois, BREEZY usually means winds 20 G 30+....they don't call it WINDY CITY for nothin'.

Jeff

PS> Any comments or speculation as to what happened between VCA/Lance and VATUSA is just that...pure speculation. No one should have an opinion except those who were directly involved. You simply don't know, and any comment on the situation only makes it worse....so just keep it zipped would be my advice.

IMO, I think TGIF is big enough now to carry itself. If people really wanted to, atleast 100 pilots (minus the VCA guys, if they care to not fly) could go into ORD/MDW this weekend and go to all the scheduled airports for the rest of the year....

I think it is time for Mark Zameda (VATUSA TMU Manager) to grab the reigns of the TGIF and make it an all inclusive VATUSA event.

If VATUSA were to start "taking over" events that virtual airlines have worked hard for months to build up and create, then Lance isn't going to be the only one jumping up and down screaming. I don't have any problems with VATUSA doing their own Friday night event, but TGIF is a "brand" that VCA, AVA, UPSVAC and Virtuel Frontier have built up over many weeks and months. I would not support any group within the VATSIM trying to appropriate that.

Cheers!

Frankly, I have no interest in VAT-whatever taking over any VA events. Why do the work when they are already doing it? Besides I think they are better at than us.

you are VERY correct, Troy.

And as for it being a brand, I would think some copyright infringements could come into play, either by ABC/Disney, or TGI Friday's.

I think the point is that it would just be "uncool" for VATUSA to hijack an event like that. In my opinion, this will blow over and VCA will continue to organize the event. I really hope that the VCA membership will be able to look past Lance's personal issues with Jeff Turner and continue the event, with or without Lance. If Lance decides to fire them all, well, that's his call.

If VCA doesn't continue with TGIF, another VA will step up and fill the void, regardless of what the event is actually called. TGIF is more than just Lance or VCA. Much more.

The 'TGIF' term came into common use after a disco movie release in the late 1970s' titled 'Thank God its Friday'.

Thanks, Richard. As Ross mentioned, hopefully some sort of solution can be worked out by the virtual airlines involved.

Cheers!

Ernie, maybe we need to be Politically correct and call it "Thank Goodness It's Friday"?

TGIF IS a VCA Event. And I Guess that means Lance can do with it, as he wishes. So Lets let it be, and let him make the call, and take it from there. He's VCA's CEO, and it's his call.

But since other VAs participate in it, why would they not want to get the ball rolling on it? Does he have the event copyrighted or something? Just because HE doesn't want to do it doesn't mean others won't pick it up.

I just don't see the logic of it.
