Dace Nicmane Posted January 16, 2016 at 12:17 PM Posted January 16, 2016 at 12:17 PM When I try to turn off the Squawk Standby in the menu, it never works on the first time, only second. Takes a lot of clicking: Plugins, XSquawkbox, Squawk Standby, Plugins, XSquawkbox, Squawk Standby, then once more Plugins, XSquawkbox to check. Does it matter if I do it at all or perhaps it's sufficient that it's correct on my aircraft panel?
Mathew Sutcliffe Posted January 16, 2016 at 03:12 PM Posted January 16, 2016 at 03:12 PM Hi Dace, Yes, you need to turn off squawk standby before takeoff. Do you have this problem with any specific aircraft, or is it with all aircraft? It should be sufficient for it to be correct on the aircraft panel, but you still need to check the XSquawkBox menu and disable it there if it is enabled. The menu item exists because not all aircraft panels have a correctly functioning transponder. The menu item is the canonical indication of whether or not you are squawking standby on VATSIM. It's possibly a particularly nuisance aircraft panel is interfering with your attempts to disable standby via the menu. swift - Developer
Dace Nicmane Posted January 16, 2016 at 03:45 PM Author Posted January 16, 2016 at 03:45 PM I have this problem with the x737. I tried some other aircraft and for some who are NOT squawking standby in the beginning it takes two times to turn the standby ON. Yet others operate normally. Should I ask a controller what he sees or is it definite that if the menu item is checked it's standby?
Mathew Sutcliffe Posted January 17, 2016 at 09:06 PM Posted January 17, 2016 at 09:06 PM I believe it's definite but it wouldn't hurt to ask a controller. swift - Developer
Christopher Collins Posted January 18, 2016 at 07:56 PM Posted January 18, 2016 at 07:56 PM Be aware that the Squawk Standby menu item is pretty superfluous these days. It stems back to X-Plane 7 (I believe - certainly earlier than X-Plane 9) where there was no way to set the state of the Transponder in the aircraft models. If your aircraft uses the standard X-Plane hooks to set Transponder mode, it should Just Work. Dace Nicmane Posted January 22, 2016 at 11:39 AM Author Posted January 22, 2016 at 11:39 AM Yea, it seems that the menu item is redundant.
