Updating the Default GPS FS9/FSX/P3D

A fellow VATSIM pilot, Herve' Sors, has created and maintains web pages and databases containing updated Navaids and Fixes for FS9, FSX and P3D. Each link (one for Navaids, one for Fixes) includes an installer that makes life easy! These files will enable pilots who utilize their default MSFS or P3D GPS the ability to recognize the current Navaids and Fixes in their GPS. Pilots can then fly waypoint to waypoint via their default GPS, enabling them to fly RNAV Procedures. The files may be found here:

Fixes (FS9/FSX/P3D): http://www.aero.sors.fr/navint.html

Navaids (FSX/P3D): http://aero.sors.fr/navaids3.html

Navaids (FS9): http://aero.sors.fr/navaids2.html

They are donationware, as described on Herve's home page http://aero.sors.fr

With these updates, it is possible to fly the RNAV DPs (and STARs as well) by using the GPS. AND.... once you have an updated GPS database, you may be able to eliminate a lot of the fast and furious waypoint plugging by exporting your route from vRoute to FSX format, and then loading (Flight > Plan > Load) to FSX. Go to http://www.vroute.net for vroute. The free vroute standard version is all that you need to gain this functionality for most major airports; there is a premium version available for very short money if you prefer access to all airports as well as the features that are included in the premium version.

That's how I do it when using aircraft that utilize the default GPS (updated fixes and navaids plus vroute premium). Remember, this gives you all you need for lateral guidance only; you must plan and execute your vertical climb and descent profiles.

There are likely many other methods to do it. There is a freeware FMC out there called vasFMC that some folks use. There are probably others out there too. The freeware FMCs out there may rely on default (or updated) nav data from your default GPS, or may rely on payware Navigraph data (although I personally believe this data is actually pretty cheap, but cheap/expensive is different for everyone....). There may even be some payware FMCs too. You could do a forum or Google (or equivalent) search to learn more about those options if you were interested.

Question:

I am running FS9 (Flight sim 2004) and not FSX with the older Navdata that they originally give you.

Will these updates, update my Navdata for FS9 as well

It seems I do not have latest Navdata for RNav approaches

The controller at Boston wanted me to fly the ROBUC1 arrival RNAV and I was trying to find the RNAV DPs for the Robuc1 arrival to Boston from JFK New York and couldn't find any wav points on my GPS.

Will this help with the newer RNAVs as listed.

Any Help appreciated

Just to be clear, you don't need to touch the FS scenery to do either of these. All that this update will do is give you the option to navigate direct to a new waypoint via the FS GPS, or to use the default flight planner.

Cheers!

I honestly couldn't remember if FS9 was supported or not -- I made the switch to FSX almost 10 years ago -- so I just clicked on the links above to check. Good news. The navaids link for FS9 is http://aero.sors.fr/navaids2.html The Fixes/Intersections update is FS9/FSX/P3D. I updated my post, above, to clarify.

Suggest you try these and then try the ROBUC again.... I think you'll be all set. Remember that if you set up the route with vRoute, export to your sim and load your flight plan from within FS9, it will sequence all of the waypoints for you. And if you do it tonight, coming from JFK you're most likely to land 27, next-most likely to land 22L.... Hope this helps.

Thanks Don

Thanks for responding I'll look into it ; Was also wondering, do I also need to do the fixes portion ?? Fixes (FS9/FSX/P3D): http://www.aero.sors.fr/navint.html

or can I just do the Navaids (FS9): http://aero.sors.fr/navaids2.html

Hopefully I can then see the RNAV points on the Robuc1 arrival to Boston Login !

Hope I still can use the FS9 flight planner after this, as I read it can have an effect on that if you do the update possibly.

THX

It should be WADD. I don't know why WRRR is still in the database, that was its old identifier.

Did you remember to set a "scenery" location to point to where you installed the updates?
