ZLA & ZOA Operations

On July1, 2016 ZLA (Los Angeles) and ZOA (Oakland) will undergo some operational changes. The changes will affect the SOCAL and NORCAL Tracons. The intent of these changes are to eliminate some confusion particularly to newer pilots operating in or out of theses facilities. The changes are listed below:

 

Los Angeles - ZLA

LAX_APP will begin operating as SCT_APP (Socal Approach). This is only for the combined Tracon position. The LAX_APP position will only be utilized during events when other approach positions are staffed. This position will also cover KSAN unless the SAN_APP is staffed. SAN_APP will still use the call sign of Socal Approach.

 

Oakland - ZOA

SFO_APP will begin operating as NCT_APP (Norcal Approach). This is only for the combined Tracon position. The SFO_APP position will still be utilized but only during events when other approach positions are staffed. This position will also cover KSMF unless the approach position SMF_APP is staffed. SMF_APP will still go by the call sign Norcal Approach.
