Panos Kottaridis Posted July 13, 2016 at 03:59 AM Posted July 13, 2016 at 03:59 AM Join us on Friday 15 July 2016, 14-2000Z, to celebrate the release of 29Palms' game-changing Samos (LGSM) scenery and prepare to experience one of the most challenging approaches in Europe. Samos is a procedural-ATC airport. This means that approach controllers will not be equipped with a RADAR and will rely on position reports from pilots, trigonometry and logic to separate traffic. As if this wasn't enough, Samos features one of the most difficult approaches in Europe due to the topography of the airport and its surroundings. Expect mountainous terrain to the north and west of the airport as well as tight visual turns on both finals. Runway 09 will be almost certainly in use despite possible quartering tailwind and visual approaches and departures from runway 09 will be the norm. Inbound and outbound traffic is limited using timeslots. The same will take place during the event. Thus, to avoid delays or diversions make sure that you book a slot here: https://events.hvacc.org/#bookings for your flight and adhere to that slot. Important note: Due to the difficulty of the approach, pilots are advised to land in daylight. Also note that ICAO regulations normally forbid visual departures at night. So, to improve realism, don't forget to turn your simulator clocks! Both LGSM Approach and LGGG Center will be there to help and guide you to/from the airport. After the event all participating pilots will take part in a lottery and 10 of them will win 20% discount in a 29Palms’ product of their choice.
