Dear All

 

Vatsim West Asia opening applications for Web [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istants (WAs) - members that [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist with the tasks of the Web Services Department. We aim to form a team of skilled members that we can work with and delegate to, in order to improve the development cycle of our systems.

 

We are currently looking for individuals with a range of skills who wish to involve themselves with our web services team in any of our support positions.

 

Applications are now open to both members experienced in developing the code of web systems, but also to those with other skills (e.g. graphic design, database management or server administration). All applicants should:

 

have been a VATSIM member for at least 6 months;

be familiar with the basic operations of the division;

be familiar with the public interface of our web systems;

display a good standard of written and spoken English;

be willing to learn and develop their skills while working as a part of a team;

be willing to contribute a minimum of 7 hours per week to their duties (ideally spread equally throughout the week).

 

Support [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istant

 

An applicant for the role of support [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istant does not have to be an experienced programmer, but should have experience working with web systems and databases.

 

Members of the support team must have:

 

a reasonable understanding of the operation of web systems;

at least some experience with e-learning, CMS systems and/or forum software (examples to be provided in applications);

good working knowledge of databases (ideally MySQL) with exposure to writing your own SQL queries;

prior experience of managing or working within a Linux server environment.

Any other skills you have should be outlined separately in your application.

 

Members of the support team can be expected to perform duties such as:

 

partake in projects [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned by the Web Services Director;

respond to member and staff enquiries about web systems;

perform administrative tasks;

take an active part in department discussions to improve the division’s web services;

test and otherwise monitor our web systems to ensure successful operation;

interact with the development team to resolve issues raised by members;

[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist other departments requiring web support;

perform tasks required to [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist other division departments (e.g. data/stats processing).

Graphics and User Interface/Experience [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istant

An applicant for the role of graphics [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istant is required to have specific skills allowing them to contribute to

the code of our systems.

 

Members of the graphical team must have the capability:

 

independently to produce graphics within the specification provided;

to work with teams within the division to develop graphics concepts.

 

Members of the graphical team would ideally have:

 

a sound working understanding of HTML and CSS;

an understanding of good web practices and effective user interfaces;

evidence of prior user interfaces created and utilised within a web environment.

 

Development [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istant

 

An applicant for the role of development [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istant is required to have specific skills allowing them to contribute to the development of our systems.

 

Members of the development team must have:

 

a good understanding of HTML and CSS;

an in-depth knowledge of PHP;

experience working with MVC frameworks independently;

a good understanding of MySQL, including PHP-MySQL interaction;

the ability to utilise third-party libraries and integrate with third-party systems via APIs or custom written scripts.

 

Members of the development team shall preferably have some of the following:

 

experience with other scripting/programming languages (e.g. JS, Perl);

experience in managing forum systems (preferably IPB);

experience with e-learning or CMS systems (examples to be provided in applications);

graphic design skills.

 

Members of the development team can expect to contribute in the same manner as those in the support team,

 

plus:

 

fix issues that arise with our web systems;

develop projects [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned by the Web Services Director;

perform tasks required to [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist other division departments (e.g. data/stats processing).

Development [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istants can expect to be given individual projects to focus on and take ownership of.

A brief summary of activities to date in the VATSIM community;

An explanation of your web-related skills with reference to the application criteria;

Any examples of work you feel are relevant to your application;

Evidence/[Mod - Happy Thoughts]urance that you shall be able to contribute an acceptable amount of time to the position.

 

Any enquiries about the role should also be emailed to the address above. We will look to introduce members to

these roles in mid october and as such would ask that any interested parties submit their applications prior to

Friday 07 October 2016, 23:59z. Any applications received after this time may be held in the pool for

 

future rounds of applications.
