Cancel Flight plan

Is there a proper way to cancel a flight plan? Newbie

I filed a plan from KLAX to KSFO (VTU6 RZS SERFR) was almost ready to taxi then changed my mind (wanting to follow some other traffic). So I refiled a new plan to KLAS (LOOP8 DAG KEPEC3). However when I called for Clearance I was surprised at my departure clearance. It caught me completely off guard. I got the VTU6 instead of the Loop8, which is OK but seemed a bit odd. I complied and completed the flight.

After the flight I reviewed the VATSIM stats. My flight plan still showed my destination as KSFO, and probably why I got the VTU6.

So.... I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume I didn't cancel my original flight plan properly and confused the Clearance Delivery controller. What do I do next time to do it correctly.

There is no way to "cancel" a plan. Usually, refiling will override the old plan. What I found works better is disconnecting, reconnecting then refiling. To check that it updated, I click "Fetch from Server."

Also, I usually have VATSpy or something similar running in another window, and generally hover over myself on it to make sure my flightplan is showing up before calling in for clearance.

Could be wrong, but if you pre-file, you can't change it for 2hrs, unless of course you alter your callsign?

You would be wrong.

But to pre-file you HAVE to be disconnected from the network (ie on vpilot etc).

If you pre-file, and connect, then you can't re-prefile without following the process of

1: You are connected and pre-filed.

2: you disconnect from the network.

3: you pre-file a second time

3a: sometimes the prefile access times out, you will need to press the "file flightplan" button a second time after the error comes up.

4: wait for a good 30 seconds or more

5: connect to the network

Your new flightplan (which reached the network during step 3a (not 3)) is now filed.

I wasn't aware that was the way to over-ride it. My comment was (I should have been more specific above) specifically;

Pre-file using the VATSIM pre-file web page,

Connect to the network with a pilot client,

Try and change the FP using the pilot client........ Won't work for 2hrs in my experience.

My belief is that the VATSIM pre-file page submission has the same supremisee as if a controller made the change. A pilot client can't then alter either of these in my experience. Tried it numerous times, and the only way is to disconnect and the reconnect with a different callsign say QFA345A.

I had not tried using the pre-file page to make the changes.

This is the main reason I do not use the pre-file system. Using the pilot client I can make changes every minute if I wanted.

In my experience same happens if I connect at a controlled facility, the Ctr makes a change to my FP, Ctr logs off, my FP is then uneditable for two hours. (Unless I use the Pre-file web page as you mention)

Sean, try this, it *may* work (it usually does).
