I have recently installed squawkbox and I'm using x-plane 8.32. I'm new to this, so I only want to listen a see for a while. How can I do it? I connect to a server, x-plane tells me that I'm connected, but I hear nothing...help for newbies is very poor in vatsim site.

Any help?

Thanks,

Carlos

I'm definately not trying to be insulting here, but did you tune your radios to an active controller's frequency. In the X-Squawkbox plugin menu, there's an option to "Show who's connected". It will give you a list of active controllers in your area. You should then tune your COM radio. In your case, it doesn't really matter who you tune to if you just want to listen. If you want to contact ATC regarding your flight (ie: getting your flight clearance, taxi, takeoff, etc), then you'll need to tune to the one controlling your airspace.

When you tune and a connect to the voice server, you'll see a notification appear in the X-Squawkbox window stating that you've connected to voice.

On a side note, be sure to state in the comments of your flight plan that you're an observer if you don't plan on flying.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Yes, it is supposed to be version 1.0.

The zip contains a folder called "To plugins folder". As it says, extract the plugin (the .xpl file) and the directory into your xplane/resources/plugins/ folder. Done!

You should not unzip it directly into your root x-plane folder..

Start x plane. In the menu you can now find xsquawkbox in the plugin menu.

From there it should be pretty easy. Name, vatsim ID/p[Mod - Happy Thoughts].. Setup your voice.. Check preferences.. connect.. Tune your radios and listen.. You probably wan't to check "Who is online" first.
