Fredric Greenblott 1346549 Posted January 21, 2017 at 05:46 PM Posted January 21, 2017 at 05:46 PM So I set up a flight at Heathrow, and I asked for clearance as normal. "Heathrow tower, BAW001 is at stand 421 with info D, QNH 1025, IFR to New York." Heathrow Tower didn't seem to hear me and continued reading back other planes' clearances. I repeated my clearance request again 5 minutes later. All he said was "Standby." He continued with other planes. Finally I asked a third time again 5 minutes later, and he said my flight plan was not filed. I checked vPilot and it clearly said [17:43:20] Flight plan filed. I told him my flight plan WAS filed but he continued talking to their pilots as if he didn't hear me. I have no clue what went wrong. Any guesses? Robert Shearman Jr Posted January 21, 2017 at 07:49 PM Posted January 21, 2017 at 07:49 PM One thing I do when flying on VATSIM is that after I check VAT-Spy to see where ATC coverage is & where I might like to fly as a result, I keep it open to keep tabs on changes in coverage as I go. Additionally, almost obsessively, I will hover over my origin airport after filing my flight plan to see myself in the list and ensure it properly reflects my chosen flight. If you make a habit of that, then if something like this happens again you'll have at least a little insight as to whether it's a software issue or a human one. (Problems with your mic can't quite be ruled out in this case either.) Cheers, -R.
David Zhong Posted January 22, 2017 at 02:45 AM Posted January 22, 2017 at 02:45 AM In vPilot, make sure you aren't logged on as an observer (there is a checkbox in the connection window). If you are an observer, your flight plan will simply appear blank. David Zhong
Board of Governors Simon Kelsey Posted January 23, 2017 at 12:11 AM Board of Governors Posted January 23, 2017 at 12:11 AM Also - check your flightplan remarks field. If it is too long (I'm not sure what the exact limit is) the server will reject it and it will appear that no plan has been filed. The easiest thing to do is to remove the EET/ section in the remarks which is normally populated by planners such as PFPX, Simbrief etc. It's not as useful to VATSIM controllers as some of the other stuff is and chomps up a lot of characters on a long flight. Martijn Rammeloo Posted January 23, 2017 at 06:38 AM Posted January 23, 2017 at 06:38 AM Also make sure that your flightplan actually starts at EGLL (or whatever place you intend to depart from AND spawn)... Quite often, pilots file a flightplan with a wrong departure aerodrome. As a result this flightplan will never show up in the controller's departure list. This may (and will) lead to 'interesting' conversations on the frequency. When the controllers is busy (as seemed the case in your story) he might not have the time to give you further [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istance.
