Mark Wolpert Posted March 29, 2017 at 11:21 PM Posted March 29, 2017 at 11:21 PM Just wondering why on departure when using the 09's pilots are given a heading.....example - after 2 DME LON turn right 220......rather than just [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igning the appropriate SID to follow off of the 09 runway. I suspect its because pilots don't follow the turns correctly but maybe there is another reason. thanks.
Phillip Speer Posted March 29, 2017 at 11:34 PM Posted March 29, 2017 at 11:34 PM Hi Mark, The CPT SIDs on easterly operations conflict with arrivals from the BIG/OCK stacks during normal operations. When quiet (at night and no other traffic) then you may be [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned the SID, though bear in mind potential conflicting arrival traffic would be unknown to DEL/GND/TWR controllers a this time. Due to this conflict, departures are vectored until clear of the arriving traffic and will be put on own navigation by the TC/AC London controllers (there is an LOA that Heathrow will hand off on a heading to TC London. Due to the arrival streams and the RMA there is no way of a SID avoiding the traffic (without taking a long way south similar to the GASGU departures before routing north again. Mark Wolpert Posted March 31, 2017 at 01:23 PM Author Posted March 31, 2017 at 01:23 PM Thanks Phillip, appreciate the response. I somehow thought it was pilots not following the published SID properly so it was better to vector.
