Panu Fabritius 1127654 Posted April 6, 2017 at 01:09 PM Posted April 6, 2017 at 01:09 PM Hello, I have two headsets and they work normally in windows environment, both sound and microphone. I use two hardware PTT buttons for both pilots. However, when connected to VATSIM the other PTT button/microphone does not transmit sound. The blue TX does react in vPilot. I have the microphones connected with a Terratec Aureon 7.1 sound card. Any ideas what could be the problem?
Ross Carlson Posted April 6, 2017 at 01:47 PM Posted April 6, 2017 at 01:47 PM Does each headset appear as a separate audio device in Windows? Developer: vPilot, VRC, vSTARS, vERAM, VAT-Spy Senior Controller, Boston Virtual ARTCC
Panu Fabritius 1127654 Posted April 6, 2017 at 03:14 PM Author Posted April 6, 2017 at 03:14 PM Thank you for message! They are not separate. They are both under the Terratec sound card.
Ross Carlson Posted April 6, 2017 at 03:15 PM Posted April 6, 2017 at 03:15 PM I don't know anything about that sound card ... it's certainly possible that a single sound card with multiple headset ports could appear as multiple sound devices in Windows. Or, the sound card could be mixing the microphones into a single device in Windows. Do you know for sure which of those options is true? Kirk Christie Posted April 7, 2017 at 07:37 AM Posted April 7, 2017 at 07:37 AM Try virtual audio cable, that is what we used in the sim before we got ruscool intercom sound cards. Ross Carlson Posted April 7, 2017 at 02:05 PM Posted April 7, 2017 at 02:05 PM Panu, Virtual Audio Cable will help if that sound card creates two separate audio devices in Windows, but if it is just a single audio device and it mixes the inputs from the two different headsets, then there is some other problem here. So before you give VAC a try, please respond to my previous question. Do you see two separate audio devices created by that sound card? Panu Fabritius 1127654 Posted April 8, 2017 at 02:30 PM Author Posted April 8, 2017 at 02:30 PM Hello, Sorry for delay in answering your question! The device manager gives the following: -Microphone (2 - Aureon 7.1 USB) -Speakers (2 - Aureon 7.1 USB) Does this mean that it does give the value of 2 microphones coming through the sound card? Ross Carlson Posted April 8, 2017 at 07:02 PM Posted April 8, 2017 at 07:02 PM Sorry, I have no idea what that 2 means there. Developer: vPilot, VRC, vSTARS, vERAM, VAT-Spy Senior Controller, Boston Virtual ARTCC
Panu Fabritius 1127654 Posted April 9, 2017 at 10:29 AM Author Posted April 9, 2017 at 10:29 AM Ok, I guess it gives the value of two microphones but they can't be chosen separately. Could it be a problem for vPilot if indeed the sound card mixes two microphone to one? In vPilot I see following microphone options: -Wave - Microphone (2 -Aureon 7.1 USB) -Wave - Stereo Mix (Realtek High def) -Wave - SPDIF (2 -Aureon 7.1 USB) -Wave - Line (2 -Aureon 7.1 USB) -Direct Sound - Microphone (2 -Aureon 7.1 USB) -Direct Sound - Stereo Mix (Realtek High def) -Direct Sound - SPDIF (2 -Aureon 7.1 USB) -Direct Sound- Line (2 -Aureon 7.1 USB)
Ross Carlson Posted April 9, 2017 at 03:26 PM Posted April 9, 2017 at 03:26 PM It definitely looks like it only creates a single audio device for both microphones. So I don't know why only one of them works. Have you tried using both microphones with a simple audio recording app like Sound Recorder? Panu Fabritius 1127654 Posted April 10, 2017 at 02:46 PM Author Posted April 10, 2017 at 02:46 PM Yes I have and they work normally. So there are two microphone inputs in the sound card = 1 and 2 If I change the position of the microphones they both work in position 1 but not in 2 while in vPilot. Ross Carlson Posted April 10, 2017 at 04:06 PM Posted April 10, 2017 at 04:06 PM If you haven't already, I would try selecting every audio device as the microphone device setting in vPilot, one at a time, and seeing if any of them allow you to transmit with the second microphone. Panu Fabritius 1127654 Posted April 11, 2017 at 09:42 AM Author Posted April 11, 2017 at 09:42 AM It looks like only the "Wave - Microphone (2 -Aureon 7.1 USB)" position can set the TX on. Still no sound going through. What I noticed when I tried the other positions that when I went back to the "Wave - Microphone (2 -Aureon 7.1 USB)" position it did not launch the TX. I had to disconnect and restart vPilot so that the TX would lit up again while pushing PTT.
Ross Carlson Posted April 11, 2017 at 01:02 PM Posted April 11, 2017 at 01:02 PM I'm confused ... the choice of audio device should not have any impact on your ability to transmit. Christopher Flett 1349312 Posted April 11, 2017 at 10:57 PM Posted April 11, 2017 at 10:57 PM You should try using the onboard microphone port with a 2 into 1 adapter. Maybe its an issue with the card itself.
Panu Fabritius 1127654 Posted April 13, 2017 at 04:47 PM Author Posted April 13, 2017 at 04:47 PM SOLVED - partially I have now separated the two microphones from the sound card and connected them with the VAC. It works! Still the original problem is unsolved and it does not make sense why I was unable to transmit sound with the other microphone. Its okey though, I'm happy with the result. Thanks a lot for all the support!! Panu
