Rich Heimlich Posted May 16, 2017 at 09:36 PM Posted May 16, 2017 at 09:36 PM Today I took a flight from SEA to PDX with FPLN: SEA BUWZO KRATR2. I was handed off to the PDX tower and was on my final to 28R down around 3,000 ft when I was requested to contact SEA CTR. I jumped over, got the okay to land from CTR and was immediately sent back to PDX tower. That seems a bit confusing to me and I'm certain I screwed up somewhere, but I'm not sure where exactly. Can anyone shed light on that? Why would CTR want me at 3,000 feet on final?
Daniel Hawton Posted May 16, 2017 at 10:48 PM Posted May 16, 2017 at 10:48 PM Probably a better question to pose to ZSE directly. There are times controllers need to step away to the bathroom real quick. Not sure why the CTR guy didn't just key up TWR's frequency and listen for the brief moment.. or what exactly was the purpose. That's a better question to pose directly to the ZSE ARTCC. Board of Governors Don Desfosse Posted May 16, 2017 at 11:14 PM Board of Governors Posted May 16, 2017 at 11:14 PM (edited) Daniel's right; shoot them a note and ask. From the sounds of it, chances are you did nothing wrong. Edited May 17, 2017 at 07:31 AM by Guest Don Desfosse Vice President, Operations
Bradley Grafelman Posted May 17, 2017 at 12:25 AM Posted May 17, 2017 at 12:25 AM I was requested to contact SEA CTR Are you referring to the "Please contact me..." private message? If so, I could see that as being an accident. Pretty easy to send that PM in VRC (and I suspect ERAM), whether you meant to or not. CTR> Aw darn, thought I ASEL'd someone else. Didn't mean to send that contactme. He's probably going to switch to me for land-- You> "SEA CTR, UAL27 back with you?" CTR> Sigh. CTR (intercom)> "Portland, Center" PDX (intercom)> "Go for Portland" CTR (intercom)> "APREQ landing clearance for UAL27 because of a... wrong button. Back to you for the taxi" PDX (intercom)> (stifled chuckle) "UAL27 cleared to land. XY"
Rich Heimlich Posted May 17, 2017 at 07:07 AM Author Posted May 17, 2017 at 07:07 AM It was a Private Message request. I checked in and he casually cleared me to land and then apologized for the confusion. I likewise apologized for my part in the confusion. I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]umed he was simply being nice by taking the responsibility when I really goofed. I'll ask them directly as recommended above.
