Marc Rioux Posted June 4, 2017 at 02:41 AM Posted June 4, 2017 at 02:41 AM This is more of a question for the eurocontrol controllers. Since the UK is going to be leaving the European Union soon, will Eurocontrol Islands (EURI) stop controlling the London UIR (EGTT) and the Scottish UIR (EGPX) when online? I don't want this to be political, but this is rather just out of curiosity, because sometimes countries do change and bring enforcement to controlling boundaries along with it. Also, will any other changes happen regarding events like these? For instance, entry restrictions or limits etc.? Thanks in advance!
Andreas Fuchs Posted June 4, 2017 at 09:22 AM Posted June 4, 2017 at 09:22 AM Hi Marc, since VATSIM is not bound to any political decisions, EURI should continue to cover the same area as of now. I do not anticipate any changes. Pierre Ferran Posted June 4, 2017 at 11:16 AM Posted June 4, 2017 at 11:16 AM Marc, The "Eurocontrol" positions we have now are completely fake, and do not match any real world sectors, so I don't see a reason why our fake position would change. Moreover, legally speaking, while the UK will be leaving the EU in 2 years, it will not be leaving the Eurocontrol convention. Eurocontrol is an intergovernmental organisation, completely dissociated from the EU. While the EU is a party to the convention, and has delegated lots of its airspace regulation competence to the organisation, the two are separate. I don't think the UK will be leaving the convention, unless it decides to leave the Council of Europe, where a legal issue will arise, as membership of the Eurocontrol convention requires membership of the Council of Europe. vSMR Plugin for EuroScope
