I know a little about flying and I hardly know anything about Vatsim... I'm looking for someone who can help me get the ropes of both... Anyone down?

Checkout a post made yesterday in this subforum asking for basically the same thing.

Saved you a click

Welcome to the last day of your free time. :-)

Head over to vatstar.com and register there.

Once your account is validated you can sign up for an Instructor session under the type code "General Practice Flight" (you don't need to be working actively toward achieving any pilot rating, necessarily). Depending on the Instructor, we may use a shared cockpit protocol, or might watch your cockpit screen via TeamViewer and offer guidance via TeamSpeak. But either way, we'll be happy to help.

What else have you tried so far? Having people knowledgeable about aviation, and VATSIM specifically, is a great opportunity. There are other ATOs out there that may work for you better, but always recommend VATSTAR. Have you taken the online P1 course and read through the PRC?

Just curious as to what it is you're looking for we're not offering. I'm always open to ways VATSTAR can better serve new VATSIM members & help them get acclimated to the network.

Cheers,

I'm not a fan of vatstar's long written tests, long wait times for everything, I think its a good idea and I can see it's helped a lot of people just not what I was looking for.

You don't need to be actively working toward a rating (and thus, don't need to take any tests) to use our services.

As for the wait -- well, we're not just sitting at our computers waiting for someone to come along who needs help. The appointments have to be made in advance.

But, to each their own -- if you find an organization out there doing it better than we are, and it helps you be more comfortable flying on the network, it's a win-win as far as I'm concerned.

Cheers,
-R.
