Kyle Barbour 1399529 Posted July 24, 2017 at 11:24 PM Posted July 24, 2017 at 11:24 PM Hi, I'm a newbie here, now that I have had a successful flight in vatsim I have some questions regarding addon material. What happens if I have a plane addon that other people don't? Do they see me in my plane? What happens if someone else has a plane I don't? Do i see them in their plane? Also, I see a lot of hubbub about model matching and AI traffic or something, what is that about? Again, I am new so bare with me :p, thanks in advance
Robert Shearman Jr Posted July 24, 2017 at 11:53 PM Posted July 24, 2017 at 11:53 PM Your Pilot Client determines how to represent other players based on the aircraft type they entered when they connected to VATSIM, using one of the models you have installed on your simulator. Exactly how that decision is made is referred to as "model matching," and each of the major Pilot Clients has a different method of doing so. But the long and short of it is, you will potentially appear differently to each different player around you. When you connect & enter your aircraft type's ICAO code, some people around you may have a model of your aircraft type (and a model matching rule that catches & [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igns it), some may not have that model but have a model match rule that sees your aircraft type & [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igns something similar in size and type, & some may not have anything comparable and/or may not have a model match rule to handle it, and will see whatever their particular Pilot Client uses in the default case. Cheers, -R.
Kieran Samuel Cross Posted July 25, 2017 at 11:49 AM Posted July 25, 2017 at 11:49 AM may not have a model match rule to handle it, and will see whatever their particular Pilot Client uses in the default case. Which is quite funny, in the case that you're flying a custom helicopter, and other local pilots are using vPilot. Robert Shearman Jr Posted July 25, 2017 at 11:05 PM Posted July 25, 2017 at 11:05 PM You didn't hear about the latest joint venture between Airbus and Harrier? Cheers, -R.
Trent Hopkinson Posted July 26, 2017 at 12:25 AM Posted July 26, 2017 at 12:25 AM From ICAO: The type of aircraft is indicated by the manufacturer’s designator. If no such designator has been [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned, or in the case of formation flights comprising more than one type, insert “ZZZZ” and specify the number(s) and type(s) of aircraft in Item 18 (Comments) preceded by “TYP/” (up to 60 characters can be put, for example: TYP/3C182 2C172). Kieran Samuel Cross Posted July 26, 2017 at 10:29 AM Posted July 26, 2017 at 10:29 AM You didn't hear about the latest joint venture between Airbus and Harrier? I was always told that venture hasn't been agreed yet - apparently the VATSIM network can see the future. When can we expect to see something like this on VATSIM, do you think? PS, it says Airbus on it, it must be real . Kind Regards, Kieran Cross,
