Rhys Marston 1303542 Posted August 29, 2017 at 11:28 PM Posted August 29, 2017 at 11:28 PM Hi there Philip! Signing up to the academy (https://academy.vatsim.net/) is great because it is quick and teaches you all the basics required to get flying on the network. However, I propose an alternative method. What you could do is have a look at this link (https://ptd.vatsim.net/atos) and see if a VATSIM ATO near you has a P1 course available. For example, my local ATO would be the VATSIM UK Pilot Training Department and looking at this page I can see they provide "P" from P1 through to P4. Getting your P1 this way can be beneficial as divisions can give you practical mentoring as well as theoretical. Also, completing your P1 with an external ATO opens up the other P ratings they provide (If you wish to learn about flying on the network even further!) Completing your ratings this way also helps out the ATO greatly and I'm sure any of them would be "waiting with open arms" to train you up Science, freedom, beauty, adventure. Aviation combines all the elements I love. There is science in each curve of an airfoil, in each angle between strut and wire, in the gap of a spark plug or the colour of the exhaust flame. There was freedom in the unlimited horizon, on the open fields where one landed. A pilot is surrounded by the beauty of earth and sky. He brushes treetops with the birds, leaps valleys and rivers and explores the cloud canyons he had once gazed at as a child.
