Robert Cardone 1323915 Posted October 20, 2017 at 02:38 AM Posted October 20, 2017 at 02:38 AM I like to fly with Vatsim ATC, so when I look at which areas have a center controller, that is where I usually wind up flying. My question is, is there an easy way to see what airports are located in each center, so that one could fly from one airport in a center to another without leaving the center and flying into uncontrolled airspace. Most of the maps I have seen, only show the area of the center without indicating any airports inside it's borders.
Ernesto Martinez Posted October 20, 2017 at 03:49 AM Posted October 20, 2017 at 03:49 AM For most clients, it only shows the airports that someone is departing or arriving. In VATSPY you can show unstaffed airports as well. That I know of, VATSPY is the only client that does this. Andrew Morkunas Posted October 21, 2017 at 12:42 PM Posted October 21, 2017 at 12:42 PM Just a reminder, VATSpy and other VATSIM viewer programs and websites depict a two dimensional view. When controlling Center I get pilots contacting me saying that they are inside by airspace because VATSpy says so. I try to convince them that at their current altitude they are not. The easiest thing to do is send a private chat to the controller asking him if he provides coverage for your airport of interest. A confusing example: KPHL is part of the New York ARTCC that underlies Washington airspace. NY Center provides services at KPHL when there are no local or TRACON controllers online. What I was looking for is the next selection of over from the two you pointed out, it says show inactive airports. This shows all the airports in the ARTCC, which is exactly what I needed.
