Henry Yandell 1397750 Posted November 4, 2017 at 12:31 PM Posted November 4, 2017 at 12:31 PM (edited) Is it allowed and if so how would I do it? Edited November 7, 2017 at 07:13 AM by Guest
Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted November 4, 2017 at 03:03 PM Posted November 4, 2017 at 03:03 PM I don't know, Henry. I looked and could not find anything specifically prohibiting it, even in the VSOA guidelines. However, there is a specific restriction against performing "Firefighting" operations unless a member of a VSOA. Crop Dusting and Firefighting are not that far apart in function and performance, so I would guess that, no, it is not allowed.. I would contact Roger Curtiss, Vice President Virtual Airlines and Special Operations VATGOV9, and ask him specifically if it is permitted, [email protected] Good luck, I have the DC10 Fire Tanker, the Fire mods for the C-130 and the DC-3, and a SEAT, but all I do online is fly from one airport to the next as if I am "positioning" resources near a fire, which is allowed. Bradley Grafelman Posted November 4, 2017 at 03:08 PM Posted November 4, 2017 at 03:08 PM (edited) Then again, the VSOA guidelines say nothing about a normal VFR flight, complete with altitude changes (more specifically, changing to low altitudes over unpopulated fields)... Magnus Meese Posted November 4, 2017 at 03:37 PM Posted November 4, 2017 at 03:37 PM The way I see it, firefighting is a government operation and thus covered by the VSOA, while dusting is a private venture and only fall under the restrictions of VFR. Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted November 7, 2017 at 04:58 AM Posted November 7, 2017 at 04:58 AM Henry, Any chance you could post what the "solution" was since you changed the subject to [sOLVED]? None of the responders thus far, myself included, have or hold positions (that I know of) within VATSIM to say "do it", so if you are basing your "solution" on our comments you could be making a costly mistake. If, on the other hand, you contacted Roger Curtiss as I suggested and he has replied with a definitive answer, that reply would be nice to see. Randy Tyndall 1087023 Posted November 8, 2017 at 07:06 PM Posted November 8, 2017 at 07:06 PM (edited) Henry, There is a solution because you changed the subject to [sOLVED]. Either you have found out you can fly crop dusting missions on VATSIM or you have found out you can't. Not knowing if you can or can't is not a "solution". Did you contact Roger Curtiss though the link I gave you? There are several of us here who have tried to help, given you our opinions, which are not solutions, and wait to see the result. Nothing is more frustrating in these forums than seeing the original poster never come back or worse yet find an answer, but not post the result. Be a sport and let us know what, if anything, you found out. If you found out nothing, please say so, then we can all ignore your [sOLVED] subject line. Bradley Grafelman Posted November 8, 2017 at 08:09 PM Posted November 8, 2017 at 08:09 PM I give up. A victory we waited far too long for. The much ado about nothing is finally over and we can go back to using common sense.

Yes/No 3) If you responded "Yes" for #2, did he say crop dusting was allowed? Yes/No We're just here to try and come to an actual conclusion rather than speculating on the result of your inquiries or lack-thereof.
Camden Bruno Posted November 8, 2017 at 08:56 PM Posted November 8, 2017 at 08:56 PM I give up. look, you were arrogant by not looking at the fact that I had in fact changed the subject heading about 2 days prior to you having a big rant at me, so theres not point getting angry. You only have yourself to blame. Henry, First of all, you may want to look up the definition of arrogant. Second, watch your mouth and tone. As Josh stated above, all Randy was trying to do is inquire what came of the situation of whether you received an official answer that wasn't simply another forum member expressing what they think the answer is. The subject line isn't the issue - it's that you haven't answered the question of whether or not you've gained any information on the subject. In the future, I suggest you do not edit the subject line to reflect "SOLVED." Please kindly refrain from making posts like the one above, and instead answer the questions Josh posted. Or, if you don't want to be helpful, simply don't respond. Respectfully, Cam B. VATSIM Supervisor
