So... I was planning on doing the longest flight in VATSIM history. Which is YMML - EGLL. It is a little over 10,000 nautical miles. I am planning on doing it in July as I have to train and be able to communicate with ATC running on fumes. I also have to prepare physically because I am a little bit of a workout freak. . Anyhow, that's my post of the day!

What aircraft are you planning on using?

Note as well that there are longer flights that have been conducted on VATSIM in the past.

In fact as part of a beta myself and a former VATSIM President flew real time, at the controls for the entirety much to our respective wive's amusement / annoyance EGLL YSSY back in 2005

I know that others have flown longer since.

To keep it the longest, I have amended the flight plan from YMML-EGLL to YMML-EIDW. Almost 11,000 miles. I plan to use the B777-200LR that I have heavily modified (via code) so it has enough fuel to make it to it's destination, an alternate airport, plus 1 hour of extra fuel.

I remember someone flew the wrong way around the world before. Might as well just fly along the equator and stay in the air for 50+ hours.

Its still not the longest KooperJames.

This should not be some kind of record deal anyway.

This is actually a pretty interesting problem... One where VATSIM's VSOAs could reign supreme (i.e. refueling).

Having the runway in sight just at TDZE + 100 is like Mom, Warm cookies and milk, and Christmas morning, all wrapped into one.

This is just a thought, so, take it or leave it... but you might want to take a pause and consider what your goal is. Are you doing this because you really enjoy flying long-haul flights? Great, then just do a long-haul flight between two distant airports that seem interesting, challenging, or appealing in whatever other way you see fit. And if it's a *personal* record, or longer than *most* flights on the network, then please pat yourself on the back when you get landed and shut down.

On the other hand, if you're looking to become "famous on VATSIM" for something, well, this is just my opinion but I'm not sure that's in the spirit of what this network is about. Realistic aviation isn't about doing something spectacular -- it's about honing your skills and professionalism to be able to make the most challenging flights uneventful. If a controller is on for four hours and handles hundreds of flights, and happens to remember ONE flight more than any other, that's usually because something BAD happened. Making a POSITIVE name for oneself on this network is more about maintaining high standards of knowledge, skill, and professionalism -- not falling prey to "look-at-me" behavior.

Again, that's all just my own personal opinion and I don't speak for any authority within VATSIM. Heed or ignore at your own discretion.

Cheers,
-R.

I am a little surprised by the response to this guys dream. People saying: “why are you really do it?” “Don’t bother I already beat you.”

What ever his reason, good on him for sharing and wanting to be online. That’s my thoughts. Why do we try and discourage people doing things. What about “do you need help?”

Anyway, I reckon go for it mate, enjoy VATSIM.

I tend to agree with Sean and Nestor, KooperJames (what a cool name!).

Why did Charles Lindbergh want to fly across the Atlantic? Because no one had done it. Why did Amelia Earhart want to fly around the world? Because no female had done it.

Why did Chuck Yeager want to beat the sound barrier? No one had done it...and there were military use implications as well. And, in the process, several of his bosses in the military were setting speed records and distance records of their own in other military jet aircraft of the era for no apparent reason other than to do it.

Go for it KooperJames, but a bit of forewarning. Now that you have "advertised" your intentions here in the forums do NOT leave your connection unattended...which will make for a very, very long sit at the keyboard for you. Your connection will undoubtedly be "watched" and disconnected if you appear to ever be AFK for very long, so no sleep for you my friend. Even letting someone else monitor your connection while you sleep may be in violation of your terms of agreement since that could be seen as letting someone else use your log in to "fly"...although I think not.

I cannot respond to your PM, Nestor. You have disabled the ability of people to PM you. But, sure...go ahead, to answer your question.

Invite friends for a sleep-over

That way you are "there" (even if your friends have to yell at you to get you to wake up).

No more of a violation than Full-Sized Simulator builders doing worldflight, or whatever they do at UK Live events at "lunch time"/Early Morning

Sim owner is "on site" - even if not entirely conscious at the time - and takes responsibility for any breaches of rules with his own account (which encourages vetting of the maturity and intent of the other attendees.)

If your friends/crew/donors do something dumb (like falling asleep and not being responsive to ATC/Supervisor checks) then it's on you for not organizing the event well enough. not them.

Vatsim does whatever it does to your account.

You do whatever you do with access to your house/cockpit in the future.

As discussed do it for YOUR enjoyment rather than notoriety. But I say go for it! I did CTP Westbound for the first time last year and while many have done it before me, and many will do it after me, for me it was an amazing accomplishment! This was only about 9-10hrs in the chair but boy once I landed I couldn't even keep the taxi instructions straight I was just spent.

Start a new thread or use this one and use it as a blog as you go, i'm sure lots of people will comment (positively) as you go and it will be a nice journal of sorts for yourself.
