The ground controller had gone off line so London contl approved my push and start and taxi to 26L. The ground controller then came on line without me noticing and message me to contact him.It was busy for him He told me to hold short which I did. Then gave me take off clearance, as I was lining up another jet nearly landed on top of me . The poor controller was mortified . I am always impressed by their professional approach and how seriously they take their job . Also how patient they are even when you are heading down the wrong taxiway . Trevor Hannant Posted January 6, 2018 at 10:47 PM Posted January 6, 2018 at 10:47 PM If he's a Ground controller, he shouldn't have been giving you take off clearance - his responsibilities end at the holding point where you should have been transferred back to London Control (in the absence of Tower and or Approach).
