Andy Sheppard 1356346 Posted January 27, 2018 at 11:41 PM Posted January 27, 2018 at 11:41 PM All too often I find it impossible to understand controllers because of distortion caused by mics being too close to their mouth. If you have a headset mic it should not be directly in front of your mouth but rather it should be around the cheek area to avoid distortion and breath noises. Colin Schoen Posted January 28, 2018 at 01:41 AM Posted January 28, 2018 at 01:41 AM Feel free to advise a controller on frequency if they are over-modulated. Colin Schoen VATSIM Senior Network Supervisor
Sebastien Bartosz Posted January 28, 2018 at 12:27 PM Posted January 28, 2018 at 12:27 PM Also pay attention to what other people are saying. Id have pilots tell me my mic is garbage, and when asking the other pilots on frequency how I sound, they all said just fine. So it could be on your end too. 1275389 Posted January 28, 2018 at 07:13 PM Posted January 28, 2018 at 07:13 PM I'd say more often than not it's on the pilot's end. Rarely do I encounter a controller that has an inaudible microphone. It'll usually be one pilot reporting that I'm unreadable and broken, and three others reporting I'm loud and clear... Sebastien Bartosz Posted January 28, 2018 at 07:17 PM Posted January 28, 2018 at 07:17 PM Yep same here. Be careful though... this is VATSIM.. people get their pantys in a bunch when you criticize the poor quality of pilots. New York ARTCC
