Hi James and welcome to VATSIM.

You can go ahead and completely ignore teamspeak - its not needed for your comms. What pilot client are you using?

For viewing traffic there are quite a few options. The one I use is VATSPY which you can get here.

Hi James,

Welcome to VATSIM! As Norman says, to help we really need to know what pilot client you are using - but many of these questions (and many more that you may not have thought of yet!) are answered in the P1 rating. I thoroughly recommend taking a look at https://ptd.vatsim.net/ and finding an ATO from the list there - or the VATSIM academy (https://academy.vatsim.net/) has an excellent course which doesn't take too long and you can complete in your own time.

Good luck and look forward to seeing you in the air!

Again, there's no such thing as "installing VATSIM". VATSIM is a network that allows members using different pilot clients and ATC clients to work together. To help you further, we need to know which simulator and pilot client you are using.

VATSpy is a standalone program that simply aids your situational awareness by displaying online ATC and pilot traffic.

James,

Again, allow me to encourage you to go to http://academy.vatsim.net and sign up for and complete the P1 course. It won't take long, and it will answer these questions and many more that you haven't even thought of yet.

You will find there is a lot to get your head around both in terms of software and etiquette. There are many people here - myself included - who are very happy to help you with any problems you may have and get you up and running on the network. However, you are going to have to help yourself as well, and that means making use of the resources that many people have spent lots of time putting together to help people in exactly your position.

Best,

Simon
