Harris Carvel 1418675 Posted April 2, 2018 at 09:26 AM Posted April 2, 2018 at 09:26 AM I wasn’t quite sure where to post this but this seems like the correct place. I am brand new to VATSIM and tried it for the first one last night. I use squawkbox and last night when I went to tune in a frequency it showed only one active frequency in Germany server. Is this normal, and if so; do I use that one frequency as clearance, ground, tower etc? Also, is there an area to communicate other pilots in your flight not on the occupied voice channels? Hope you guys can help, Thanks!
Dace Nicmane Posted April 2, 2018 at 11:36 AM Posted April 2, 2018 at 11:36 AM Welcome to VATSIM. It's important what that frequency was, if, for example, you were at EDDF and the frequency was EDDL_TWR, then you can't get service from that controller. Centers (CTR) work top down and provide full service for their airports if there's no local ATC, check this page for the Germany FIR map: http://www.vacc-sag.org/?PAGE=sag_area. You can also check the controller's info for which areas they cover, e.g. on vattastic.com. It also has a chat area and Teamspeak.
Robert Shearman Jr Posted April 2, 2018 at 09:41 PM Posted April 2, 2018 at 09:41 PM Harris, also a suggestion -- when you post asking for help, it's good to try to specify what you're asking for help with. (At this stage, obviously that may be a lot ) but a subject title like "help understanding ATC control areas" might have been better. Later on when you start asking for more specific information it will definitely help you get more prompt & informative responses. Cheers, -R.
