Your VATUSA Staff has been working tirelessly to get this educational institution off the ground. As of June 5, 2006, over 87 students are actively enrolled in the Academy, being taught by over 20 current VATUSA Controllers, Senior Controllers, and Instructors. With two graduates, and several more expected to complete their tenure in the Academy, the students have begun to infiltrate the network, eager to enrich their knowledge of Air Traffic Control and strengthen a network whose foundation is comprised of courtesy, professionalism, and realism. However, WE NEED YOUR HELP! As successful as the Training Academy is at this point in time, we are receiving an enormous amount of applications each day from students wishing to start their training, thereby increasing the already large workload with which each Academy Teacher must work. Therefore, we need your help and ask that if you are at least a C1 rated controller you will be able to [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist with teaching students in the Academy. Your Invested Interest We remind you that the Academy is training YOUR future colleagues, sculpting them into being extremely proficient and knowledgeable of the Air Traffic Control Handbook (FAAO 7110.65) Clearance Delivery to Tower operations, as well as establishing a working knowledge of and solid foundation for the Radar Clients used to control on the network. This is YOUR opportunity to become well acquainted with the new students, represent YOUR sector and create an impact on the students strong enough to make them ultimately choose YOUR sector to call home. Staff Eligibility •VATUSA ARTCC rated controllers with a C1 and higher rating •VATUSA Staff Instructors Tour of Duty •Instructors – 3 months (rotating, ext. possible) •Controllers (C3) – 2 months (rotating, ext. possible) •Controllers (C1) – 2 months (rotating) Staff Roles •Academy teachers will perform lesson administration and evaluation/debriefing, teaching DIRECTLY from the lesson materials that have been created and compiled in strict compliance with FAAO 7110.65 •Examiners will perform all stage checks including final evaluation/debriefing Weekly Expectations •Academy teachers should plan to complete at least one or two lessons per week with each of his/her three students •Examiners should plan to complete at least two stage checks per week Controller Recruitment Process If you are interested in teaching in the Academy, send an email to the Deputy Director of Training, Anthony Santanastaso ([email protected]) that includes Name, CID, and Email Address. While it is certainly not a requirement, feel free to list any teaching experience you may have, whether real or virtual. You will be required to complete and successfully p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] the Academy Staff exam via the VATUSA Certification Center. Upon receiving a p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ing score of 80%, you will be contacted by Anthony asking you to arrange an orientation meeting where you can be formally introduced to the Academy and its Operating Procedures.
