Seeking ATCO Training and Advice regarding backlogs

Good day all,

For some time now (years), I've been trying (waiting) to obtain ATC training in my home region. I presume there is a bit of a backlog, to put it mildly. From this thread: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=73215 specifically Don's second-last post, I understand other regions/divisions may also have a backlog. There is no publicly available information as to the specifics of these.

Having had quite enough of waiting, if someone in management can kindly advise and possibly [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist please, can I be pointed in the right direction of a suitable division that has an active training program with which one can commence training within a reasonable period of time please?

Thank you.

Without knowing the current backlogs, your best bet might be a smaller Artcc in the USA, or one of the newer formed/ing VACCs.

Something to keep in mind however is the time differences for your session and when different areas of the globe are busy.

Hello Richard, thank you for your reply.

Is there any resource out there that will point to these newer/smaller vACCs? So far all I can think of is to look at the more "inactive" airports on Vatstats but that hardly seems like a reliable gauge if any at all. As written in the linked post, the management has more information on these training backlogs and can transfer members to the appropriate one.

Among the first steps I've taken to restart this journey is to transfer to another division. I received an error message stating I do not have 50 hours minimum duty. This is probably (?) due to my S3 rating from many years ago in which training commenced but after the first session, no second one was ever arranged.

It simply does not seem possible to attain any useful rating ever, under my current division, and therefore need [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istance to transfer to one that can. Time zone and activity differences do not matter a great deal, as I am quite flexible with regards to these and will happily accommodate.

Sorry if you've answered this, but have you tried reaching out to your current Division and regional Training Admins to see if they can help? The Regional staff might also know where in the more local area that is in need of controllers.

To transfer you'll have to get a hold of your current Division / region membership team and request a transfer after you decide where to go.

I personally walk the regions section of the forums to see who's recently opened up shop and actively recruiting staff and controllers.

Australia and especially New Zealand don't have much of a backlog. Nepal, India and other vACC's like these also have a smaller training program.

Hi Richard,

Yes I have but (no surprise) there's no response. Mr. Anastasios Stefopoulos is listed as the Asian divisional director; would it be appropriate to send him an email to request for a division change or should I look for other lower-level staff? In my original post I was actually hoping for someone to directly move me out of my division as was what happened in the linked thread, which would save everyone alot of time.

Hi Andrew,

Australia and New Zealand sound good and their timezones are suitable as well. I have registered with VATNZ and put in a Vatsim ticket requesting for a transfer. It would be a privilege to be able to train under your region and I look forward to it.

Maybe I can help out a bit and provide some more insight into the transfer process.

A Region transfer can be requested by a member directly at https://cert.vatsim.net/vatsimnet/regch.php. This request will be reviewed and either approved or denied by the respective Regional Director or his/her designee. The VATSIM Regions are Africa/Middle East, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South America. Anastasios Stefopoulos the Region Director of the Asia Region. Only if the Division or vARTCC/vFIR/vACC one wishes to belong to is outside of one's currently [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned Region, a Region transfer request should be submitted.

Intra-Regional Division transfer requests should be sent to the affected Division Directors, and if no response is received, to the Regional Director. Most if not all VATSIM Division websites have a page either showing or directly allowing contact possibilities with the division staff.

The Membership Department and other departments or staff other than the above are not tasked with handling transfer requests.
