Hey everyone!

Just thought I would share with you guys something I am working on currently.

http://www.pireps.weebly.com

I just thought that Vatsim needed something for pilots to file Pireps on. I have been working on this for a few days now and it is still (obviously) a work in progress. However, it is fully functional for those of you interested in trying it out. If I get enough interest I might consider seriously upgrading the website and database. I will be manually deleting filed Pireps after 12-18 hours (hopefully)...

Known Issues:

  • For some reason it seems like you have to file the PIREP twice
  • Ignore the SID line. It is a default input and is not your Standard Instrument Departure
  • The map has to be manually updated so you can expect delays in the map anywhere from 1-12 hours (as of right now)

To-do List:

  1. A map to show location of PIREPs (now implemented; see known issues)
  2. More user friendly way to create and submit PIREPs (on hold)

Comments and feedbacks are always welcome!!!

EDIT: Due to a couple reasons (listed in this forum: https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=77897&p=530274#p530274) I have not been working on this for a while. If anyone has some new ideas or is interested in helping , please let me know and I'd be happy to pick up the project again.

Could be me Josh, but what is the benefit of this? I did a test one, and it doesn’t ask for much.

As of right now yes. If you have ideas for more features to add, you can let me know... As I said, this is still a work in progress.

Also IRL, pireps are just a "heads up" to other pilots and that is (hopefully) all that really needs to be asked in the form.

So to answer your question, it is just there to help other pilots when it comes to planning flightplans and avoiding weather.

However, as said before, feedback for improvement is always welcome

I think this idea has worth. My 2 cents suggestions would be drop down box choices which compile into PIREP coding. Not everyone knows how to do this, especially on the fly. Pinpointing the PIREPs on a map would be even more beneficial. I can see this being a tool that controllers and pilots can utilize. Skyvector offers this for the US real world as a point of reference.

As you probably have noticed from my original post, there is a lot of manual running of the database. Since I am (obviously) not available 24/7, I will eventually need the help of a couple other people (if this idea ever gains enough popularity) until I can upgrade to a more automatic system. If you would be interested in helping me, feel free to contact me via PM.

This is something I've wanted to see for a very long time! Thanks for taking the initiative and doing it!
