On 6 July 1998, the historical Hong Kong Kai Tak International Airport was closed and the airport operation moved to the current Hong Kong International Airport. The ICAO code VHHH was move there too. Time flew by, and it has already been 20 years since the closure.

Do you remember those days when flying into Hong Kong means a very low approach over the residential buildings in Kowloon City, a sharp turn in front of the Checker Board before touching down, and the spectacular view of the Victoria Harbour? Hong Kong VACC wants to bring you back those memories. On 7th July (Sat.), from 1200z-1600z, we will provide full ATC service at Kai Tak. Join us for fun night flying the world-famous IGS 13 approach.

Details:

Date: 7th July 2018 (Sat)

Time: 1200z-1600z (2000-0000HKT)

Airport: Kai Tai International Airport (VHHX)

Charts: Available on the Hong Kong VACC website (http://hkvacc.org/?page_id=141)

Remarks:

1. The ICAO code for Kai Tak Airport is VHHX on VATSIM.

2. Pilots are [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume to be able to fly the legacy SID/STAR and the IGS RWY 13 approach from CH (Cheung Chau – 122.300) VOR. Pilots may visit the Virtual Asia-Pacific Airport Procedures (VAPAP) website at http://www.vapap.com/kai-tak-airport to download navdata for your aircraft. If your aircraft does not have SID/STAR for VHHX on the flight computer, radar vectors will be provided upon request.

3. Pilots inbound for Kai Tak Airport (VHHX) are advised to carry additional reserve fuel due to possible holding. Pilots departing from aerodromes within Hong Kong FIR are also advised to carry additional fuel due to possible holding on the ground.

4. As the airspace is not designed for Hong Kong Int’l (VHHH – Chek Lap Kok) and Kai Tak (VHHX) to co-exist, due to constraints, flights from and into Kai Tak will be given priority during the event. Flights from and to VHHH may expect delays. Thank you for your understanding.
