Friday 20th July 2018 1930-2130 NZST / 1730-1930 AEST / 0730-0930 UTC

Hamilton is a very busy general aviation airport in the real world with significant flight training. Tonight we will overload the skies with VFR traffic. Come fly and try something different. Options include VFR flights in and out of the control zone, circuits and IFR. The focus of the event is on VFR although light aircraft IFR flights are also encouraged and larger planes up to a 767 are also welcome.

To estimate how many pilots are intending to attend pilot bookings would be appreciated through VRoute, this will allow us to staff the correct number of positions. Both Hamilton Tower positions will be rostered and if you want to control Bay Approach please get in contact with [email protected], and put a booking in for the position. All other positions are free for all.

A few possible routes are listed below with approximate times for each route in a Cessna 172:

  • NZHN - NZTG - NZTO - NZHN: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • NZHN - NZAR - NZMA - NZHN: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • NZHN - NZTT - NZRA - NZHN: 50 minutes
  • NZHN - NZRA - NZTH - NZHN: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • NZHN - NZTO - NZAP - NZHN: 1 hour 20 minutes
  • NZHN - NZRO - NZMA -NZHN: 1 hour
  • Circuits
  • IFR Training
  • IFR Routes
  • So many others

The departure and arrival procedures are very simple out of Hamilton, please read them.

Runway 18

Runway 36

In simple terms if you are coming from the west or east position your aircraft to fly towards the airport at approximately 90 degrees to the runway between 1700 and 2000ft. This is all that the controller is expecting but people who want a more realistic experience can read the whole procedure.

Unique Hamilton Points:

  •
Aircraft should establish contact with Hamilton Tower on 122.9 first no matter if they are a departure or arrival

  •
"Runway 18L number one / 2 etc" gives permission to turn base when ready or to comply with a condition eg follow the Cessna, you do not need a clearance to make the turn. You only require a clearance to turn base if the controller requests you to extend downwind.

  •
Aircraft should report ready as instructed by tower, this will be on 126.8, the pilot should then remain on this frequency until they are clear of the zone

  •
Aircraft should report clear of the zone on 122.9, you do not need to be told to change frequency, this reduces radio chatter on 126.8

  •
Taxiway Bravo between C2 and B1 is uncontrolled, aircraft approaching head on should give way and the inbound aircraft should use the gr[Mod - Happy Thoughts] on the right side of the taxiway.

The idea for this event is to replicate real world procedures to aircraft that want it.

TeamSpeak

  • Meet in the VATNZ Flight Club TeamSpeak room.
  • server = vatnz.teamspeak3.com
  • nickname = first name space last name space vatsim id
  • p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word = Temporary TeamSpeak p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word for event will be the event departure airport ICAO in lower case.
