Adrian Edwards 949520 Posted June 27, 2006 at 06:00 PM Posted June 27, 2006 at 06:00 PM In the Flight Simulator video device list, there is nothing there; though I can fly. It kind of happened all of a sudden and as a result I am getting 5 FPS and FS in unplayable. I have tried reinstalling Flight Simulator and I have an Emachines T2824 with the onboard video on a secondary monitor and an additional Radeon 9250 for the primary. I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]umed it was a video driver issue but I tried updating them. Any [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istance on this would be greatly appreciated. Ross Moir 844817 Posted June 27, 2006 at 11:06 PM Posted June 27, 2006 at 11:06 PM Hello Adrian , Im not sure what the cause of your problem is , but I know that the 9250 card would be struggling on its own to display FS9 well . How much RAM does the T2824 use ? If it has onboard video , I would be surprised if it was more than 32MB , nowhere near powerful enough for FS9. The T2824 was not I think designed to play high level 3D games , perhaps a new slightly more powerful computer would be in order ? FYI , here is the revue of the T2824 : T2824 Ross Moir Taxiway ALPHA Landing Expert
Adrian Edwards 949520 Posted June 27, 2006 at 11:53 PM Author Posted June 27, 2006 at 11:53 PM FS was displaying fine by my low standards with the 9250 when it was working, I had it locked at 20 FPS and it was at about 18-19, I haven't ever had it run much higher so that's fine for me. I upgraded the RAM to 512 before I even thought of installing FS, so I'm not running the T2824's default of 256. I added the 9250 to a slot in the back, and that's the main screen I have the sim on with GPS, overhead panel, SB3, and all that on my second monitor with the onboard 64 MB Intel chip, though I normally try to keep background apps to a minimum. All was good and well and both video cards were selectable in the FS device menu, until all of a sudden neither of them were there and FS now is unplayable after a couple reinstalls and playing with everything and I'm getting 5 FPS. Interesting. Thanks for the reply.
Ross Moir 844817 Posted June 28, 2006 at 12:03 AM Posted June 28, 2006 at 12:03 AM When you updated your video drivers , did you completely delete the old ones ? There are 2 schools of thought on this , one is it is okay to overwrite the old drivers with the new ones , the other is that you must remove all traces of the old drivers before you install the new ones . I favour the second one , and have had no driver issues doing it that way . Both ATI and Radeon have small removal programs for this purpose. Have you tried a System Restore to see if that fixes it ? Adrian Edwards 949520 Posted June 28, 2006 at 12:46 AM Author Posted June 28, 2006 at 12:46 AM I tried a system restore intially to try to fix it, that didn't work. I'll try completle removal of the drivers though, up to this point I've just been trying the overwrite.
Paul Byrne Posted June 28, 2006 at 03:34 AM Posted June 28, 2006 at 03:34 AM Hi Adrian, I'm thinking it could be a physical issue with your card? Have you checked to see whether the card is still in the slot correctly. I know there is an issue with cards that are being run hot all the time where due to them heating and cooling continually they eventually slip out of the slot slightly. You say that flightsim isn't recognising the Radeon anymore. Does the PC recognise the Radeon? If not, this could be your problem. Hope this helps. Cheers! Paul. Ross Moir 844817 Posted June 28, 2006 at 01:10 PM Posted June 28, 2006 at 01:10 PM Hello Adrian , Have you checked in device manager to see whether the card has been identified by Windows ? To do this , right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. Left click on Properties . Then Hardware , then Device Manager . Open up the Display Adaptors , and your 9250 and Onboard cards should be listed , along with the driver version for each. If there is a yellow exclamation mark there , you have found the problem . Adrian Edwards 949520 Posted June 28, 2006 at 04:25 PM Author Posted June 28, 2006 at 04:25 PM Thanks for the help guys; maybe the problem is not something that I can easily solve. I checked the device manager, and it shows the onboard video and the Radeon cards as installed and in working order.
Paul Byrne Posted June 29, 2006 at 03:14 AM Posted June 29, 2006 at 03:14 AM Hi Adrian, Have you tried running DirectX Diag to see if there are any problems with direct x and your card? That's the only other thing I can think of, if the computer is seeing the card but FS isn't. If you're seeing a DX problem with the card, maybe just reinstall Dx9.0c and see if that fixes your problem. Hope this helps. Cheers! Paul.
