Michael Krause 810881 Posted January 4, 2005 at 02:52 AM Posted January 4, 2005 at 02:52 AM Hi all! Hopefully someone has some insight into regulations involving overflights of the Brazzaville and Kinshasa Area: When planning flights from Germany to South Africa (for example Munich to Cape Town) the shortest route includes this portion: ... SEB A403D TUMMO UA403 BZ DCT KSA UA611F VNA UR987F ANVAG ... Since there is no airway connecting BZ (Brazzaville in Congo) and KSA (Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo) but those two fixes are real close I use a direct between the two of them. But is this a valid routing? Are the real routes similar or do you have to take a detour to the east or west to avoid those two countries? From my knowledge there have been many wars in that region so my suggested direct may be illegal... Thanks for any input on that topic! London-FACT is far enough west (via France/Spain/...) and Cairo-FACT is far enough east so the most direct route doesn't p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] through the area in question... Maybe Ilan knows... Dieter Brugger 810604 Posted January 10, 2005 at 09:29 AM Posted January 10, 2005 at 09:29 AM Hi Micha, maybe this page could be of help: http://www.ais-asecna.org/en/index.htm I didn't dig further into it but the page doesn't look too bad. Also I have an original real world route of Swiss Intl. Airlines from December 2003 from LSZH to FAJS. The plan routes: .....UG727 BZ KSA UB733D.... So I think it´s just a DCT from BZ to KSA. Hope this helps. Dieter Brugger VATSIM Supervisor http://www.vacc.ch
Michael Krause 810881 Posted January 10, 2005 at 12:43 PM Author Posted January 10, 2005 at 12:43 PM @Dieter: That real life route is what I was searching for! So it seems to be legal to fly BZ KSA. I've already searched the ASECNA AIS but didn't find anything related to that. Thanks a lot! Greets Micha

Oren Geva 825051 Posted January 10, 2005 at 09:59 PM Posted January 10, 2005 at 09:59 PM Michael, These routes Kobi posted were created bu Jeppesen Flitestar when I imposed the SID and STARS for the end airports, so I can [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ure you these are legal. If you want to use a different STAR or SID tell me here, and I will find a suitable legal route.
Evert Zandbergen 848202 Posted January 10, 2005 at 10:37 PM Posted January 10, 2005 at 10:37 PM Hallo Michael Overhead africa many parts are uncontrolled FIR's, as a pilot you will have to report your position frequently on the HF radio, this will keep other pilots alert. It's just like unicom. So as far as I know it's not a problem to fly a DCT on that route over congo...though you might want to check their NOTAMS. Tony Kovacs 958372 Posted January 12, 2007 at 06:58 PM Posted January 12, 2007 at 06:58 PM I control over FZZA Kinshasa Center from time to time. The answer is yes. There is a direct route between BZ Brazzaville and KSA Kinshasa VORs. Need not worry. Tony. Tony Kovacs MOVCON - Movement Control Instructor http://www.vatcaf.org "Who Cares Who's the Best!" Anas Toumi 922910 Posted January 12, 2007 at 08:36 PM Posted January 12, 2007 at 08:36 PM Hi Michael , Like my friend Tony said it's not illegal to fly the BZ -> KSA route but sometimes due to war areas as Kobi stated there. So don't worry while flying there! Regards, Anas
