Goran Anckers Posted November 17, 2018 at 03:25 PM Posted November 17, 2018 at 03:25 PM Today I did meat a flight on opposite (wrong) direction of my IFR HiWay who was flying DCT "Abama dct Sallo", but his flightplan just say "Abama Sallo". My question is if DCT should be put between the to waypoints in a flightplan, or not? -like this "ABAMA DCT SALLO"? As I see it, VROUTE program always do DCT in flightplans, when there is, and that makes the way of the flightplan clearer for other Pilots when there is no ATC on line. Are you even allowed to fly DCT, when no ATC?

Andreas Fuchs Posted November 17, 2018 at 05:39 PM Posted November 17, 2018 at 05:39 PM Technically, yes, effectively everyone knows that "WPT WPT" means "WPT direct WPT". Evan Reiter Posted November 17, 2018 at 06:12 PM Posted November 17, 2018 at 06:12 PM I understand yes for many places in the world, but NOT in the US! This is changing with the use of the ICAO flight plan. As much as I hate it, the airlines are using this format in the flight plans we file. I know both ACA and JBU are using "DCT" with IFR/ICAO ATC flight plans. However, when I look at FlightAware, those don't appear (and I understand flight strips don't show "DCT" either). So, perhaps there's some sort of parsing that takes place at the FAA level to remove them. Andreas Fuchs Posted November 17, 2018 at 06:33 PM Posted November 17, 2018 at 06:33 PM Do you flightplans just show a blank space or rather 2 dots like ".." ? Robert Shearman Jr Posted November 17, 2018 at 06:53 PM Posted November 17, 2018 at 06:53 PM Aesthetically my feeling is that the DCT notations are extraneous & messy. But on the other hand, there is something to be said for the logical flow of "point, route, point, route, point," etcetera. Cheers, -R.

Matthew Bartels Posted November 18, 2018 at 03:33 PM Posted November 18, 2018 at 03:33 PM ICAO standard is to have DCT in the flight plan and not a space. A space is the equivalent of the dot in the US FPL format You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
