Hello everybody,

You all know about the venice carnival right? People dress up in masks and have fun around the town.

It's said that the Carnival of Venice was started from a victory of the Republic of Venice against the Patriarch of Aquileia, Ulrico di Treven in the year 1162. In the honour of this victory, the people started to dance and gather in San Marco Square. Masks have always been an important feature of the Venetian carnival. Venetian masks can be made of leather, porcelain or using the original gl[Mod - Happy Thoughts] technique. The original masks were rather simple in design, decoration, and often had a symbolic and practical function. Nowadays, most Italian masks are made with the application of gesso and gold leaf and are hand-painted using natural feathers and gems to decorate.

Whats this got to do with flying?

We invite you all to dress up and fly down to Venice (LIPZ) in your best mask... not only yourself, but your plane too! Let us see your best special livery you have among your birds.

During the carnival there are various competitions, one of the most important events is the contest for la maschera più bella ("the most beautiful mask") and we will follow that accordingly: send us your screenshots (or even photos of you dressed up in front of the screen!) via mail ([email protected]) or twitter (@vacc_italy) or through facebook and we will feature it on our social media pages! The winner will stay on our front page for the whole of March
