Jim Ray 1446634 Posted February 2, 2019 at 05:01 PM Posted February 2, 2019 at 05:01 PM I am wanting to be ATC using Steam and wondering what is needed. Do I have to own FSX multiplayer for Steam and a program like VRC? I am a real pilot (retired) and have an interest in doing ATC. Thank you for the help and dicrection. 1275389 Posted February 2, 2019 at 05:21 PM Posted February 2, 2019 at 05:21 PM Jim, You can use any of the free software for ATC. You do not need a flight sim. VRC, Euroscope, vSTARS, or vERAM can all be downloaded on their respective websites.
Philipp Edlich Posted February 2, 2019 at 09:04 PM Posted February 2, 2019 at 09:04 PM Just to specify: The software to use depends on the region where you want to control. You can find information about the training process on the website of your desired division/vACC/vARTCC/FIR. | Enroute Controller |
Jim Ray 1446634 Posted February 3, 2019 at 12:32 AM Author Posted February 3, 2019 at 12:32 AM I notice that VRC is supposed to be a good one. I am wondering about this one. Download Tower View Modelsets - Required for Virtual Tower View In order to use the Virtual Tower View feature in VRC 1.1 or later, you will need to have the VIP multiplayer aircraft modelsets installed within FS9. If you already have Squawkbox 3 installed, then you don't need this. This installer (and the VRC Virtual Tower View) currently only works in MSFS 2004. I am wanting to use FSX if I need it, and have the Virtual Tower View. Thanks Jim
Board of Governors Don Desfosse Posted February 3, 2019 at 02:21 AM Board of Governors Posted February 3, 2019 at 02:21 AM VRC no longer supports Tower View, and never did with FSX. Both vSTARS and Euroscope offer a way to simulate a Tower View with FSX. As has been mentioned, your facility training team will guide you with software selection once you've joined a local facility and are beginning training. That may steer you toward whether you'd be more likely to want to use vSTARS or Euroscope for Tower View.
