Dean Cook 974435 Posted July 18, 2006 at 05:22 PM Posted July 18, 2006 at 05:22 PM After my first experience online flying last night, I have some questions regarding ATC frequencies, which I've been unable to answer despite close scrutiny of the FAQ's and other resources: 1) How do I find out the geographical coverage of a particular ATC? Trying to T/O KRHV Reid-Hillview, I discovered that Nor-Cal App does not cover San Jose; then sitting at Las Vegas and monitoring liveatc, it seemed they were covering Southern Cal ...it would be nice to know these things before hand so I don't make a fool of myself on-air. 2) The list of frequencies in "Who's Online" sometimes show a freq of 199.998. How does one tune to this? 3) Tuning Radio #2 to Unicomm, and then switching over seemed to have no effect; it left me on Nor-Cal App's voice channel. Should I only use Radio #1? Sorry about the total newb questions, I really want to get this right before I try again this afternoon after work. Thanks ever so... Dean
Norman Blackburn Posted July 18, 2006 at 05:32 PM Posted July 18, 2006 at 05:32 PM Dean, Welcome to VATSIM. Be warned it is completely addictive though 1. Servinfo would most likely fulfill your needs. A quick check in the AVSIM file library will unearth this free download. 2. You can't and this is by design. 199.998 as you have figured is outside of the comm box range and is the default frequency for those who are not controlling. 3. Comm 1 and Comm 2 are seperate radio boxes. It is possible to recieve on both but you can only ever transmit on one. By default this is comm 1. By tuning comm 2 to UNICOM it wont have affected Comm 1 tuned to NORCAL. Most folk only ever use Comm1. Norman
