Lewis Haldenby 974268 Posted July 19, 2006 at 09:07 AM Posted July 19, 2006 at 09:07 AM I'm moving to Portsmouth in September, and the nearest airport for me will be Lee on Solent. I don't know if this airfield is GA or not, but I have already spoken to Carrill Aviation down there and they are stil operating. Can anyone tell me: Any other schools/clubs down there If Lee on Solent airfield have an official or unnoficial web site I can view If it is possible to fly in there from another airfield (Biggin Hill) Also, I found a company called AFA or AAF but can't remember it, but they are based at Lee on Solent, and they seemed to be a really good club, so if anyone can tell me more about them or their web site I would really appreciate it. Gordon Reid 871680 Posted July 21, 2006 at 11:21 AM Posted July 21, 2006 at 11:21 AM Hi Lewis I live abut 10 mins from Lee on Solent. The airfield is leaning more towards GA now. Used to be Navy gliding club only. Recently Solent Flight have moved from Southampton to Lee On Solent. They look a decent outfit and in fact I'm going over there next week to see about joining to do my PPL. The Hampshire police Islander operates out of LOS, as does the coastguard SeaKing helicopter. Just had a look at UKGAhttp:// and it looks like it is prior permission only to fly into LOS. I think Solent flight are working on it. Maybe see you around the place soon. Lewis Haldenby 974268 Posted July 21, 2006 at 03:03 PM Author Posted July 21, 2006 at 03:03 PM I've been speaking to Carrill Aviation, and they've given me a few pointers, eg, PPR is ademant, and I would need to have a reason for visiting (job interview...), plus I hear the police want to see some insurance papers, but that's not a problem. Well, as soon as I get my PPL (hopefully end of August), I'll take a trip down there. DO you know if they have a fully-manned ATC and an ATIS/DATIS? Matthew Lewis 878286 Posted July 24, 2006 at 02:37 AM Posted July 24, 2006 at 02:37 AM Lee Radio (AGCS not ATC) operates on 131.7 as far as I am aware. Of course with the relatively minimal traffic from the airfield, there is no ATIS/DATIS. The details of the airfield were removed from the AFE flight guide a year ago for one reason or another so it is good advice Carill are giving you. Gordon Reid 871680 Posted July 24, 2006 at 12:50 PM Posted July 24, 2006 at 12:50 PM LOS is in the Fleetlands traffic zone which is manned by RAF ATC part time. Suppose you'll find details in the Pooleys Guide. It's an unlicesenced aerodrome.
