Automatic [ATIS / RWY in use] if no ATC available

Hello together,

I'm pretty new to this forum and kind of new in VATSIM flying - so I don't know, if there was already a discussion about this topic.

Yesterday's flight from EDDH -> LSZH showed me a situation which was kind of weird from my point of view.

While I was in the last miles of my flight to Zürich I checked the livemap for other airplanes which could arrive at the same time as I will and there were 2 other. As I was one of the closest airplanes I checked the wind situation in LSZH which was 355°/0 at this time. I decided to land on RWY 34 and announced my intention on UNICOM freq. as first arriving airplane, because no local ATC was online.

A few minutes later the next aircraft called his STAR and approach to RWY 32 - (nothing bad about).

But the next aircraft called his approach to RWY 14 (so the opposite direction of RWY 32) and afterwards another airplane called approach for RWY 10 (RWY 10 crosses RWY 16-34).

Of course every RWY could be used in theory because of the weather situation (with no winds), but this "freestyle" choosing of RWYs is somehow weird and I think it's also not conform to real situations.

So my question or idea was kind of an automatic ATIS (text only) if no local ATC is online

or maybe only a chat-command which shows the RWYs in use based on VATSIM weather data.

Please don't blame me for this topic - but I think especially for new VATSIM pilots it can be very confusing to decide for a correct / good RWY / approach when everybody arround landing freeway on nearly all RWYs in all directions.

Have a nice weekend guys!

Best regards

Best is if all pilots checked local websites to see if there's a preferential runway system. For Zurich: http://www.vacc.ch/en/airports_and_charts/LSZH

GENERALLY

Arrivals: RWY 14

Departures: RWY 28

Runways will be used up to 10 kts (RWY 14) and 7 kts (RWY 28) tailwind-component

MORNING

Weekdays until 0600Z(0500Z summer) arrivals RWY 34,departures RWY 32.

Weekends and holiday until 0800Z(0700Z summer) arrivals RWY 34, departures RWY 32

EVENING

Weekdays after 2000Z(1900Z summer) arrivals RWY 28, departures RWY 32

Weekends and holidays after 1900Z(1800Z summer) arrivals RWY 28, departures RWY 32

EXCEPTIONS

Since on the VATSIM network we have most of our traffic in the evenings, it is the decision of the TOWER ATC to comply or not to comply with these procedures.
