Joep Vermaak 1465808 Posted September 28, 2019 at 02:06 PM Posted September 28, 2019 at 02:06 PM Hello all, I have some trouble getting started. Though I am new here, I have read the docomeemantation. I cannot do anything else then log in as an observer. My network rating is Pilot/Observer. I am not able to change this. My goal is to go training for an (RW) IR rating, so training here would hopefully help me greatly! My network connection is fine and I did speak to EHAM ground to request a VFR startup. My request was denied, because i am only an observer and cannot go flying. Can someone give me some pointers to go to a flying state? That is the point, right? Thanks for your help, guys! Robert Shearman Jr Posted September 28, 2019 at 02:37 PM Posted September 28, 2019 at 02:37 PM You do not need Pilot Ratings to fly on the network. If you connect as an Observer, the controller cannot provide ATC service to you because they do not see you on their scopes. If you connect in normal pilot mode, you'll be able to request & receive services for nearly anything in VATSIM that you could in the real world -- pattern work, VFR flight, IFR flight, Trans-Atlantic flight, GA, airliners, etcetera. No ratings required. Cheers, -R.
Joep Vermaak 1465808 Posted September 28, 2019 at 05:51 PM Author Posted September 28, 2019 at 05:51 PM Hello Robert, Thanks for your reply! As I log on, there was only the choice of being an observer, no pilot mode there.. In other words: There is a drop down menu, however there is only one choice. Problem was that the box was ticked 'connect in shared cockpit mode'. This does not combine with the 'pilot mode'. Problem solved with the principle of the rubber duck
Robert Shearman Jr Posted September 29, 2019 at 01:10 AM Posted September 29, 2019 at 01:10 AM That's the same thing as Observer mode. It renders one of you invisible so you don't give the appearance of two planes in close proximity. Glad you got it sorted out. For future, make sure you identify which simulator and pilot client you're using as it will help others know what troubleshooting steps to recommend. Cheers, -R.
