Dominik Fankhauser 977066 Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:00 PM Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:00 PM hi, I'm able to connect to vatsim.net without problems. I have text ATC everywhere, it works fine, but I can't yet have verbal ATC. So i tried to find out how to configure. I found this: QUOTE: "How do I use voice-over-IP with XSquawkBox For VATSIM, configure your microphone and speakers using the Audio Setup dialog box. Voice features will work automatically as you tune your Com1 radio to controllers that are using voice. " (xsquawkbox.net) So I asked myself what "Audio Setup dialog box", i haven't something like that.. I've searched, but I didn't find anything.. I've X-Plane 8.4, Mac OS X, and an integrated Mic. What do I have to do? thx in advance
Norman Blackburn Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:43 PM Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:43 PM Dominik, Make sure that the plugin you have is the VATSIM one. There are two available from the author's site - only one includes VATSIM voice. Norman
Dominik Fankhauser 977066 Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:44 PM Author Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:44 PM I have downloaded the VATSIM version. BUT: I also have the version for IVAO, can this cause a problem?
Norman Blackburn Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:47 PM Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:47 PM You cant have both plugins installed at the same time from what I recall. The IVAO one doesnt include any voice library but both can connect to either network. Norman
Dominik Fankhauser 977066 Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:51 PM Author Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:51 PM So I could theoretically delete the IVAO plugin and only use the VATSIM plugin. When I want to fly on IVAO I can use the VATSIM plugin?
Norman Blackburn Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:56 PM Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:56 PM Thats the theory. A better one of course is to just use the VATSIM plugin on VATSIM Norman
Dominik Fankhauser 977066 Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:58 PM Author Posted August 11, 2006 at 02:58 PM LOL.. I need IVAO because the x-plane.org fly-ins are on IVAO, so.. But still.. I have just deleted the IVAO plugin.. Do I have to configure some Audio Setups somehow? Or does it just work without doing anything?
Dominik Fankhauser 977066 Posted August 11, 2006 at 03:08 PM Author Posted August 11, 2006 at 03:08 PM I've just tested. Voice does still not work.. i haven't got a headset, but i've an integrated mic (which functions well, on skype at least)..
Pierre Theillere 861704 Posted August 11, 2006 at 06:15 PM Posted August 11, 2006 at 06:15 PM Hi! Only XsquawkBox for VatSim features integrated voice. Beware, if you're using the XSquawkBox for IVAO, it has no "built-in" voice function... Did you try to "calibrate" your microphone? At this stage, XSquawkBox should "replay" your voice to let you check all is fine. And be careful that there is no "voice activation" (unlike the one that seems to exist in e.g. TeamSpeak, Skype...), so you need to choose the "PTT" (push to talk) key, like in a real aircraft! I think that's the left CTRL key by default. But you can change it, and also easily choose any button from your joystick... also display a "red tip" on any corner of your screen to confirm you're transmitting. Hope it helps!
