Joshua Cosgrove 972591 Posted August 11, 2006 at 08:31 PM Posted August 11, 2006 at 08:31 PM Yesterday ATC told me to set my transponder to either seting 3 or C (I don't remember which!Sorry.) First off, the transponder is the SB3 screen with the 3 contact buttons. How do I change the transponder to help them track me. Also, what is the standby button used for? Lennart Vedin Posted August 11, 2006 at 08:52 PM Posted August 11, 2006 at 08:52 PM ATC tell you to to set transponder in C-mode. This mean simply to set transponder ON. You may be able to set transponder on/off direct from your aircraft (depend on aircraft model). Else you can use the SB3 (Squawkbox 3) buttons. You should see following window when connected to VATSIM: Push "NORM" to set transponder on ( C-mode). Push "STBY" to set transponder off Push "IDENT" when ATC tell you to. (ATC not often ask) ATC will see you blink at ATC-screen. Besides you are supposed to know yourself basic rule when to set transponder C-mode and when to turn off, see PRC http://www.vatsim.net/prc set C-mode (NORM) when you enter the runway for takeoff. Turn off (STBY) after you have land and get off the runway. Sometime ATC tell you to set C-mode during taxi. (use C-mode during taxi only if ATC tell you to) p.s. There might be sligtly different opinion exactly when turn on/off. This is when i turn on/off and no ATC did complain me. / Lennart Vedin /
