Dan Everette Posted August 19, 2006 at 05:53 AM Posted August 19, 2006 at 05:53 AM (edited) It’s not often that I’m able to make a post like this… However… I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the following VATISIM controllers on their significant real word accomplishments: Scotte Zinn: A prior ZBW chief (ATM), and VATSIM SUP, who just recently received his instrument rating in Canada! Chris Serio: (whom really needs no introduction): On successfully completing his Commercial checkride last week! Aaron Flodin: A VATSIM supervisor (and ZLA controller), whom, like Chris Serio, completed his commercial checkride yesterday! Ryan Blanding: A controller in Boston (ZBW) whom successfully (this morning) completed his Instrument checkride! This post’s intent is twofold: To acknowledge my ZBW controllers (yes, perhaps a bit selfishly), but more importantly to acknowledge ALL VATSIM controllers and pilots, whom VATSIM experience has made a substantial difference in their training. I know from personal experience that VATSIM/VATUSA has saved me literally thousands of dollars in training in the long run.. To me, it all boils down to a sincere desire to learning, as well ultimately, training in “getting it right†Edited August 21, 2006 at 07:12 AM by Guest -Dan Everette CFI, CFII, MEI Having the runway in sight just at TDZE + 100 is like Mom, Warm cookies and milk, and Christmas morning, all wrapped into one. Tom Seeley Posted August 19, 2006 at 08:30 AM Posted August 19, 2006 at 08:30 AM Well said Dan. Congratulations to those mentioned on these important accomplishments and milestones! A lot of work has gone into those ratings, and you should be justifiably proud. As a real world ATP and full time airplane driver, I agree our virtual world brings genuine value to real world aviation. Even with 10K hours there's continual benefit to flying online and using different types of navigation tools, flying seldom-used approaches, etc. There is no doubt that the one compliments the other! Thomas Parker Posted August 21, 2006 at 02:57 AM Posted August 21, 2006 at 02:57 AM Outstanding accomplishments indeed! Congratulations guys! The relationship between virtual and real is symbiotic. Each benefits from the other without a doubt. After 1.5 years of not flying RW, I recently p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ed a biennial flight review with ease. The instructor even said, "Jeesh, you'd never know it had been 1 1/2 years." It was noticable in both the flight and the review of the FARs preceeding the flight. I directly attribute that to my time here on VATSIM and these forums where I practice all the skills of flight and fight with you guys on the forums about RW rules, regulations, and procedures. It keeps my head in the game (pardon the pun... yuk yuk) Tom
