Michael Hodge Jr 961044 Posted August 19, 2006 at 03:24 PM Posted August 19, 2006 at 03:24 PM First question: (dumb question) How do you type in x-sqawkbox. And while we are at it, how do you even change key commands, i found out how to change the joystick button commands but the key commands still got me confused (for keyboard). Anyways, I can't figure out how to type to controllers, unicom, etc etc. Second questoin: Does anyone know where i can download a freeware Saab 340. I've searched everywhere i know of, thanks! -Mike Michael D. Hodge Jr
Peter Nolin 954217 Posted August 19, 2006 at 03:48 PM Posted August 19, 2006 at 03:48 PM To type just press the key you have [Mod - Happy Thoughts]igned to "Enter text key" in preferences. I use END button but I don't remember if it is the default. Preferences are in the Squawkbox menu. You can change many, many keys there. To change to controllers, unicom etc you do exactly as in FS. Change the frequency in the radiostack. Hopefully your plane has a radio. COM1 is the one to use. You can probably use COM2 but only for listening. COM1 is used to both send and receive. I don't know of any freeware Saab 340 but the planes are pretty cheap. You can ask around on x-plane.org and maybe someone can give you a tip where to find a good version of the Saab. However, the prices are often from $5 to $15 for a plane and seriously. That isn't much. Good luck and welcome. Edit: One more thing. XSquawkBox has some issues with the 8.50 beta versions. If you wan't to fly online I suggest using 8.40 until 8.50 is finished. Edit2: Ah. Reading again tells me that I misunderstood you regarding typing TO controllers. I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume you mean privatly. Here are some useful commands. Commands always begin with a dot! .msg = private message (ie. .msg CAX123 hello) .metar = metar file for airport (ie. .metar KSTL) .atis = atis for a given atc (ie. .atis LAX_V_CTR) You should avoid using private messages tho. Controllers hate when you talk to them privatly unless for asking a question or just friendly chatter. To talk to a controller/everyone on the frequency use your "Enter text key" and type directly there.
Michael Hodge Jr 961044 Posted August 20, 2006 at 12:12 AM Author Posted August 20, 2006 at 12:12 AM Thanks A Bunch, I appreciate the help! P.s When i first got x-plane i hated it. Seriously, and i only got it a few weeks ago. It wasn't running as well as i would've hoped, but after tweaking the program and the graphics settings, I Adore it! It just gives me another good excuse to say i have no life Michael D. Hodge Jr
Peter Nolin 954217 Posted August 20, 2006 at 07:17 AM Posted August 20, 2006 at 07:17 AM To be honest I was a bit put off too at the beginning. It is a very complicated simulator but giving it some time and it all changed. To be honest (again), I haven't used FS2004 since I bought X-Plane. And why should I?
