Theron Chaulk 977422 Posted August 20, 2006 at 01:48 AM Posted August 20, 2006 at 01:48 AM My computer will not let me on Squawkbox or FSInn to join onto VATSIM. I am having trouble with a little progarm called DEP (Data Execution Prevention). It tells me it shut SB and FSInn down to protect my computer. It even does this when I turn DEP off. I am also immediately told Microsoft Directplay8 was shut down as well. Is there anything I can do to get connected with SB or FSInn?????????? Thanks. Matt Hartley 949013 Posted August 20, 2006 at 10:43 AM Posted August 20, 2006 at 10:43 AM This is a longshot, but I had a similar problem a while back. Do you by chance have a Hewlett Packard printer attached to your computer or connected thru a network? If so, and if you're using the drivers that came with the printer, visit the HP website and get the most recent drivers. They may also have some kind of patch for this problem - it's been a while since I did this so I don't recall what all I installed. Anyway, that was my problem and it hasn't been back. Visit http://www.updatexp.com/data-execution-prevention.html if that dosn't help, well....get a bigger hammer. Theron Chaulk 977422 Posted August 20, 2006 at 11:08 PM Author Posted August 20, 2006 at 11:08 PM Ok, I no longer get the DEP message. However, I get the message "Microsoft DirectPlay8 Server has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" I can then send an error report to Microsoft. The error report has the following: "AppName dpnsvr.exe AppVer: 5.3.2600.2180" Does anyone know how I can get DirectPlay8 to work on my machine? Brian Beach 915973 Posted August 20, 2006 at 11:54 PM Posted August 20, 2006 at 11:54 PM To visit DirectPlay information on your computer... 1) Click Start, then Run, then type "dxdiag", then click "Ok" 2) Click the "Network" tab. 3) You may change settings there.
