[RESOLVED] SB4 & FS9

Hello all,

I understand that FS9 & SB4 ARE suppose to work with the new VATSIM audio.

However, I cannot connect to the VATSIM server anymore using SB4. (Forbidden).

I've read Don D's comments regarding this in the forums and understand that use/support of SB4 with the new codec is limited (a few months). That's ok as I plan to move to Swift when my real world work schedule permits/and provides the time for the learning curve.

But I do not understand why I cannot connect to the server now when all the instructions indicate I should be able to. Nothing has changed. I have a text file that I copy & paste my logon & p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word from so I know for a fact that is not the issue.

Again, I printed out the instructions for using FS9 & SB4 which instructs me to logon to SB4 and then launch the new AFV program.

BUT, my problem exists which "forbids" me to logon the VATSIM server via SB4.

Any help and support is much appreciated. [Win7 64, FSUIPC/Networked system]

Michael

Andreas,

No sir I am not. I even Googled to see if the the address had changed but it brought up messages from 2009.

Can you suggest a newer address?

And thank you for responding.

Andreas,

You wrote copy and paste one of the url's into the server. Where does one do this? I tried copying several of the various urls into the address bar of SB4 but it appears to be wanting a number like 127.0.0.1 which we know does not work.

Maybe I need a little more explanation than was given.

Thank you,

Mike

Hi Mike --

It looks like this one is the one you need.

I've never used SB4 so I don't know if it will default to connecting to the same server you used in the most recent connection, or whether you'll need to paste that address in every time.

Cheers,

Either way, thanks very much Robert. Again this is a short term solution until I can port my simulator over to Swift. Many thanks.

Hi Mike,

I meant: open the URL I provided. On this page then copy and paste one of the URLs that contain something with "server" into a new browser tab. This in turn will provide you with an up to date list of VATSIM server IP addresses:

url1=http://us.data.vatsim.net/vatsim-servers.txt
url1=http://eu.data.vatsim.net/vatsim-servers.txt
url1=http://apac.data.vatsim.net/vatsim-servers.txt
;
servers.live=http://us.data.vatsim.net/vatsim-servers.txt
servers.live=http://eu.data.vatsim.net/vatsim-servers.txt
servers.live=http://apac.data.vatsim.net/vatsim-servers.txt

I now figured that in your internet browser this action will trigger a download of these txt-files - my browser (Firefox) is set to just open them within the browser and NOT to download them as txt-file. That's probably where the confusion came from.

Anyway, the result will be (for now):

CANADA:165.22.239.218:Toronto, Canada:CANADA:1:
GERMANY-1:157.230.25.177:Frankfurt, Germany:GERMANY-1:1:
SINGAPORE:68.183.185.148:Singapore:SINGAPORE:1:
SYD-1:107.191.56.188:Sydney, Australia:SYD-1:1:
UK-1:209.97.177.84:London, UK:UK-1:1:
USA-EAST:134.209.67.219:New York, USA:USA-EAST:1:
USA-WEST:165.22.163.56:San Francisco, USA:USA-WEST:1:

You should just be able to enter "usa-east.vatsim.net" into the server field, and it should connect, unless SB4 doesn't resolve the hostnames for the servers.
