Adjusting Com Volume in Cockpit

Hi, previously I did most of my ATC guided flying on PilotEdge, but I recently started participating in events on Vatsim and I am enjoying it.

One challenge I found was the current "clunkyness" when the need arises to adjust ATC volume in flight. I found the current steps result in a delay in my response to ATC because I had to:

1. Alt-tab to xPilot application

2. Click Settings tab

3. Click Audio/PTT tab

4. Wait for chatter to drag slider for volume adjustment

5. Alt-tab back to sim

6. Reply to ATC.

Then, once being handed off to another sector, I find I often have to do this all again because either they are too low or blisteringly loud.

It would be great if a future version of xPilot would allow us to use the aircraft''s volume control knobs, a feature available in other ATC clients. This would be far quicker, obviously.

Thanks for your consideration, and thanks for the software!

These would be the two datarefs you would want the xPIlot plugin to read and send to the xPilot stand alone client to adjust the volume.

Please please please implement this immersive feature. In online flying the ATC and pilot's volumes are wildly varied. And its nice to be able to monitor com 2 at a lower level than com 1 for example.

If I were to implement this, there would be some caveats due to current limitations of the AFV client audio library because both transceivers share the same volume sample provider:

  • The volume level adjustment would be limited to just the COM1 radio, or
  • COM1 and COM2 would share the same output volume level (i.e. you couldn't have COM1 louder than COM2)

Justin, thanks for your enthusiasm for adding this useful feature.

My vote given the limitation you state would be to have it impact both COM1 and COM2. The utility of adjusting the audio "on the fly", IMHO, is primarily about responding to different controller audio levels. Or if the ATIS on COM2 is too loud then you could turn it down in the cockpit (albeit using the COM1 volume knob in the cockpit).

Yes, Justin Snapp's recommendation makes sense. I hope it happens soon!
