Gary Oliver Posted February 11, 2020 at 01:26 PM Posted February 11, 2020 at 01:26 PM All, The issue of the weird red crosses on the TX/RX lights and the .NET error above (with the word fonts in it) is caused by an update to McAfee desktop protection products which prevent AFV from loading what it requires. Apparently disabling this product works around the issue, and a member of VATSIM-UK is currently working with McAfee support to correct this incorrect behaviour in their products. Thanks Gary AFV Team

jack reynolds 1384947 Posted February 13, 2020 at 02:55 AM Posted February 13, 2020 at 02:55 AM You prob shouldn't disable your McAfee to use it I would just use text in vatsim, or just wait till its fixed.
Gary Oliver Posted February 17, 2020 at 01:06 PM Posted February 17, 2020 at 01:06 PM Or switch to a much better product, why run 3rd party AV when the MS suite of products shipped with Windows 10 do the job perfectly well for home use.
jack reynolds 1384947 Posted February 17, 2020 at 03:55 PM Posted February 17, 2020 at 03:55 PM But is the problem being looked in to. I would prefer not to disable McAfee. My family does a paid subscription to it and is the only real firewall software I completely have trust in. Also why did vatsim switch to a third party software, it was working fine for me the audio on xsquawkbox. and after a week of using AFV it refuses to function with the same error. I was thinking it was some non compatibility with the Resent windows update because the problem came up first time running xplane 11 on the new update. Gary Oliver Posted February 17, 2020 at 04:24 PM Posted February 17, 2020 at 04:24 PM I think you totally misunderstand the problem. The issue with the standalone is caused by your 3rd party McAfee software not allowing the standalone to load the fonts required for the Metro framework components on the UI. If you are having issues with XSquawkbox that is an entirely different problem as that is written in an entirely different language using an entirely different set of UI components. You do not need to use the standalone with the latest versions of XSquawkbox. This again is NOT anything the VATSIM devs have changed, it is an issue with the random set of software you choose to run on your computer. It is something that has been reported to McAfee (the 3rd party), again not VATSIM.
jack reynolds 1384947 Posted February 27, 2020 at 02:41 AM Posted February 27, 2020 at 02:41 AM Now is the interference that Mcafee has on the AFV, is it through firewall protection in McAfee.
ChunKei Chan Posted February 29, 2020 at 08:27 AM Posted February 29, 2020 at 08:27 AM I have similar issue too. I have tried to reinstall my AFV, checked that I have the .NET framework required, updated my windows software to the latest, and even disabled my firewall. Nothing is working Anyone else have other solutions? Edit: I realized that by disabling the "Real-Time Scanning" in the McAfee setting will allow AFV work. I guess that is the temporary solution now? Edward Berkley Posted April 1, 2020 at 03:54 PM Posted April 1, 2020 at 03:54 PM Hello all, I may have discovered a temporary solution to those who have the prevailing issue where Mcafee's real-time scanning malfunctions audio for vatsim: 1. Temporarily turn off real-time scanning. 2. Startup audio for vatsim 3. Turn on real-time scanning. Please let me know if this works.
