Ross Carlson Posted September 18, 2006 at 06:20 PM Posted September 18, 2006 at 06:20 PM Personally I'm going to wait until the add-on aircraft that I fly are modified for FSX and user reviews show that they're stable. In other words, I might wait a few months to allow the user base to find any issues in the FSX versions of the add-on aircraft that I use, and to allow the developers to release patches, before I buy FSX and download or purchase the add-ons. Tom Solon Posted September 18, 2006 at 06:24 PM Posted September 18, 2006 at 06:24 PM Forgive if this has been discussed. But I do recall somewhere that FSX will not be compatible with VATSIM? If so, I will not purchase FSX until it is. TOM SOLON VATSIM NETWORK SUPERVISOR

Nicholas Bartolotta 912967 Posted September 18, 2006 at 06:41 PM Posted September 18, 2006 at 06:41 PM What is FSX? Ditto on what Ross said, I have a ton of both payware and freeware additions to FS9, and there is no way I am going back to default. Peter Nolin 954217 Posted September 18, 2006 at 07:51 PM Posted September 18, 2006 at 07:51 PM Great idea with polls. Good choice dear admins. X-Plane comes first for me. Maybe after 6-12 months I will purchase FS X if the price is lowered. And that because of the "learning center". I will probably not even fly. Trent Hopkinson Posted September 19, 2006 at 05:31 AM Posted September 19, 2006 at 05:31 AM I will be waiting for at least 3 (three) payware addon aircraft, (with at least 2 of those being PMDG) and the Vista Australis VOZ scenery is ready for use with FSX, After which I will wait till I have a computer which can actually run it all at more than 5 frames per second, and then buy it. It may take as much as 12 months, or as little as 3. Maybe however I can convince my parents to get it for me in christmas when (if?) I graduate my uni course at the end of the year. Javier Larroulet Posted September 19, 2006 at 07:53 AM Posted September 19, 2006 at 07:53 AM hehehe good one.... we are a standard bunch of people, and we can say that with a statistical accuracy of... perhaps 95%? Sean, just a tecnicality: 8 gigabits is quite low for a torrent (roughly 1GB... 1 byte=8bits). Now an 8 gigabyte torrent will be much less successful. But then again, it's nothing that can't already be found on the torrent environment. It just takes longer to download Javier Larroulet (C3) - Chile vACC
Chuck Blake 811841 Posted September 19, 2006 at 11:40 AM Posted September 19, 2006 at 11:40 AM I'm sure I'll buy it at some point, but not before Vista is out and all of the 1st generation DX10 compatible video cards have burned through and they are releasing 2nd generation cards. By then, a few great payware add-on aircraft will have been released and I'll have more money for a BIG system overhaul. With this answer in mind, I feel it only fair to say that I'll stick with FS9 for a while... Chuck Blake

Wycliffe Barrett Posted September 27, 2006 at 10:37 AM Posted September 27, 2006 at 10:37 AM I would be really interested in the comments of anyone who has downloaded the Demo from Microsoft. The beta testers can keep out of this as you have probably been testing something even in better shape than the demo, well I hope so anyway. I ask this as I downloaded the demo yesterday and was staggered at what i saw on my PC, I still cant work out how at 15fps it (fsx) looks better than my FS2004 setup which runs at 40fps. Probably something to do with those wizards and magicians they have locked away at the Microsoft Village. Martin Georg 811874 Posted September 27, 2006 at 02:26 PM Posted September 27, 2006 at 02:26 PM The beta testers can keep out of this as you have probably been testing something even in better shape than the demo, well I hope so anyway. The demo which you guys have the opportunity to try out is a slightly revamped variant of the beta 2 release. I did not try the demo by myself, but found beta 2 to be still very slow and sluggish. Beta 3, which appeared around August 10, was a completely different experience: About 60% faster, almost free of major bugs and generally very flyable. And from what I´ve heared, the RTM-Version (RTM = Release to Manufacturing) has another 1000 bugs fixed, and is considered to be even faster, due to the debug code being removed. Generally I would consider 12-15fps as the minimum "flyable" level in FSX, and this corresponds to FS2004. In FS2004 this was also my minimum level of acceptance. best regards, Martin Georg
