Brian Fuller 973577 Posted September 18, 2006 at 09:51 PM Posted September 18, 2006 at 09:51 PM Well if you "wiggled" it, then it sounds like a hardware issue, either with the mic, the jack or the soundcard jack.
Nicholas Shepherd 909117 Posted September 18, 2006 at 09:53 PM Author Posted September 18, 2006 at 09:53 PM Yes, but it works fine in any other program, just squawkbox.

Lennart Vedin Posted September 19, 2006 at 08:26 AM Posted September 19, 2006 at 08:26 AM Different application may work different for the mic. 1. For squawkbox (SB3) you must try different driver-interface: "DirectSound" and "Wave" in the SB3 voice setting. Also make sure the SB3 setting input-device are your mic and noting else. Also make sure you have DirectX 9.0c or later for "DirectSound". 2. The replay sound in SB3 are not the mic input, it is how it will sound for the receiver after transfeered via internet. There are of cause lower bandwith and it is well required to have the best mic-level setting, try set much lower mic input volume. High volume setting will easy overload the internet quite low bandwith transfeer, while it not much matter for other local usage at your PC. / Lennart Vedin /
Wycliffe Barrett Posted September 19, 2006 at 09:31 AM Posted September 19, 2006 at 09:31 AM Hi Nicholas Well what a night that was with your static. I'm sure this is going to be a simple solution once we identify it. The wiggling thing you did makes me wonder if there is a problem with the wiring on the jack, a dirty connection and or dirty socket. If you can get hold of some acetone (nail polish remover) or white spirit even, get a cotton bud and give every thing a good clean, you could even use the mighty WD40. I can't accept that the static was a result of to much volume. Lets not forget when I did hear you, it was perfect, just a little quiet. If you can remember what exactly you did when I did hear you and replicate that we might get somewhere. I will be online, controlling again at Cardiff : EGFF tonight from about 5:30pm (1630zulu) perhaps it will be better to try and sort this problem at a quiet airfield such as Cardiff rather than Heathrow or some such. That will only cause people to get stressed. Once sorted we will get you up on circuits and then perhaps you could move over to the new pilot mentoring service. Any questions, drop me an email. later Wycliffe Barrett: C3 Controller "if god meant for us to fly, he would have given us tickets" Mel Brooks
